I went for the preorder at Bad Cat. Love my 21C S1 Corsair, but maybe the bbi version will be even better. Life's too short not to check it out!

I want to see the finished product before I touch the Corsair. If the canopy is the same as in the photos, I'll pass on it. In 1:18 scale, any major errors really detract from the looks of the plane. That's why I had to modify the razerback P-47's canopy and windshield. I was getting ill just looking at it.
I'm with digger in the feeling that we could see something big at Comic con. It's been pretty quiet on the news front.......

Well, since I'm talking to myself while the rest of you are sleeping, I might as well keep typing.....
I bet the flaps on the bbi Corsair are tabbed the same way as the P-51. I hope that you can get full deflection on them. If not, I may need to modify them much like I did with the Mustang.
If the plane comes with the red bordered insignia, I might paint them over if the rockets don't come off. It just really bothers me to have the plane looking the way it does when I'm sure Corsairs didn't use rockets that early in the war.............
I might also paint over a part of the windshield and canopy to reduced the glazed area. They seem oversized.... What do you think?

Maybe you can remove the rockets and rack easily - they probably wanted to have rockets on the bird for variety but also wanted "Dream" to be the first paint scheme (is it just me or are babes on the new craze? These companies seem to share a brain sometimes

) but the rockets are out of place but not worth discarding - think drop tank and Red 3. I bet a later repaint will have a later war scheme and the rockets will be accurate.

Is the paint scheme legit or is it fantasy? I can't find anything on it except for the FG-1D currently flying around.

Me neither, nothing for a FG-1D (There was a Corsair with that name in 1943, but a different model and paint scheme).

Airshow attendees have $ to spend gentlemen....I would not be surprised if the plane never flew in the war like that....

IF the basic layout and dimensions are good, and IF there is dihedral present, and IF BBI doesn't do an accurate (and desireable) paint scheme, I would consider re-doing one of these myself - just to have a top-notch 1/18 Corsair. That way any rocket removal and such could be evidence free!

Teamski,
Dont feel bad I pre-ordered on myself because like you I'm a 1/18th junkie as well. If it needs a few touch ups here and there I will do it BUT I'm seriously thinking of taking the wings and replacing the 21st century ones with them. My Kepford Corsair would look much better with dropped flaps.

That would be very helpful if they are the same type of mold builds... and quite amazing too! I'd love to see photos of the finished product if you do that MightyMustang!

p51,
Thats the thing. I HOPE the molds are the same or very close anyway. The 21st Century Kepford Corsair is my all time favorite from 21st and I think it would look very cool with dropped flaps as I said. But it may not happen if the molds are indeed different. But I'll find out when I get the BBI Corsair and let everyone know how it works out.

I'm going to guess that there's a pretty good chance itll be at comic con next week. I'll post on what type of structure the Corsair has.

Okay...okay! I think I'll go for the BBI Corsair, too. I already have 4 (yes, 4!) 21C Corsairs. The Boyington and the new Kepford are displayed and the other two are being modified to later F4U-1D versions. But I'm going to hang the BBI version from the ceiling, with everything hanging down as if it were coming in to trap on an aircraft carrier. I love the look of the flaps, gear and tailhook all reaching for the deck!
I might repaint it as a late war navy and take off the canopy braces. I did the canopy trick with two of my 21C Corsairs to make them the later version, with much success. However, my 'project' conversions are still in process. I'm looking forward to sharing photos when I get them done.

If the bracing on the canopy isn't improved, I might dremel the bracing down and apply fingernail polish to the bracing areas. That shouldn't be too difficult. Now if it looks right afterward is another story.....

Ski.....after you dremmel, sand with progressively finer grades of sand paper, until you are using a fine wet and dry type which will basically polish the canopy. Then cover the whole canopy with future floor polish and that should pretty much do the trick..

I agree teamski the pre-order sold fast so BCT must not have had ordered alot. But that aside it surprises me to see the demand for the BBI Corsair since 21st has done them so many times. I myself pre-ordered one but was thinking of canceling it and waiting to see what those who bought it thought of it first. Now I'm glad I didnt!
We shall see how it measures up to the 21st version soon.

I thought they said under 200....not surprising they sold out....especially with BC's record of getting you new releases before they're even posted on other sites.
I have no problem finding bbi products at tru so I'm hoping I see it on the shelf along with the paras soon enough.
Edit - BCA: "The next batch will be arriving in September but it will be a very small allocation as
BBI's production capacity (with other products) is currently maxed-out."

I hope we all saved some money during the drought.

that's an interesting comment.....may explain why we have had such a long drought from BBI (it's better than they weren't selling well so the lost interest). Gives some hope for lots more 1/18 pieces down the road.

I would have to say that the BBI Mustang and Corsair is just the beginning of what we shall see in the future from BBI. Here we all thought that BBI gave up including myself, well now we know dont we?
