The Best of 21st, my tribute to them.

Post by hotrodrock » Tue Apr 07, 2009 4:46 pm

The best for me, that is. Everyone has their fovorites in every scale. Since it looks like 21st is kaput, I thought I would pay homage to my time with them. I always thought they put out great products for the price. Theres certainly some better quality products but not at 21st's price point IMO. Lots of members have lots more pieces than I do, but I think I have a pretty fair collection.

The first 21st item I ever bought was a 1/6 figure. The one that had the box art of troops leaving a landing craft headed for the beach. Never looked back after that. I believe I have every 1/6 figure they made. Also have all of the 1/6 vehicles they releaed. Its a shame the newer members never got to see shelves full of 1/6 jeeps, kettenkrads, scout cars, command cars, etc. Its a tie when it comes to my favorite 1/6 piece, but here are some pics. In line for some weathering when I get time.

On to 1/18. I have 20 planes and am not really looking to add more. Although its not the first one I bought, its the first one I ever saw out of a box hanging from the ceiling at a TRU and is my favorite with the shark mouth a close second.

In the 1/18 armor, I have at least one of everthing that was released in the U.S. and multiples of 90% of them. My favorite peice would probably not be the choice of most. Its in line to have some detailing and weathering done.

Same goes for the 1/32 scale for the armor pieces. At least one of every release and multiples of most. Never got into the 1/32 aircraft. Always loved the little 222. Repainted and detailed this one a little.

Thanks 21st for years of fun. And a last comment. Since I have everything they have released in 1/18 vehicles and multiples of most, I don't consider myself abandoning 1/18 just because I want some different vehicles and have to go to 1/16 to get them. I consider myself one of the older members, #279 I think, and even lurked for several month before signing up after the site was formed in late 2004. Point is, I don't particular want to leave here because 1/18 has more or less abandoned me. Don't want to join the R/C forums because I'm not interested in the R/C aspect even though the 1/16 is R/C. I will probably make some posts about any new armor I get, albeit 1/16, and see how it goes.

old man at a toy show

Post by BELTxFED » Tue Apr 07, 2009 5:57 pm

Like the song says,
"Ya don't know what 'ya got 'till it's gone..."

Once met 21C's old man at a toy show a few years back. I recall how his eyes lit up when I told him how my boy loved, took care of and played all day long with HIS toys.

Thanks and cheers, Old Man.

My first 21C piece was a 1/18 CC given to me by my son. My second piece was a 21C custom 1/6 WSC. Of course, when you get a custom of a piece you love, you have to get an original...... my two favorite and prized 21C pieces.

Since my first custom 1/6 cost me $200 and the second original WSC cost me $60 on TRU clearance, we will never see the like, that's fur sure, that's fur dang sure...

Everyone talks about what will happen to their molds for the 1/18 and 1/32. I have wondered for years why they simply quit makeing 1/6 figures and vehicles, if something happended to those molds. You would still see a few sets of equipment occasionally, but I have always questioned the deserting of what their company was originally founded on.

Bought almost every 1/6 vehicle, a lot them before 1:18 came along.

Well sure Dragon is better. I would hope that something priced twice as much would be of better quality. Lots of people are always saying this or that was better quality than 21st. But the this or that which they were referring to was always much more expensive. You still could not beat 21st at their price point!

I was buying 1/6 scale figures, uniform sets, and vehicles for my son before 1/18 21st Century stuff was available. Made regular visits to TRU, WalMart, Target (had a good selection of SOW and Ultimate Soldier), and local hobby stores and shows. As a matter of fact, that is how I discovered 1/18 XD. We still have many, many, many, uniforms and figures mib as a buddy of mine and I would go to lunch and buy things when we found them in stock or on sale to put away for gifts for my son later. I know there are at least 3 1/6 SOW jeeps stuck away that I never even gave him. My buddy has accumulated over fifty 1/6 scale jeeps. He likes military jeeps. My son has given up the passion for 1/6 for Mopars!
Due to all this involvement of buying 1/6 for him, I developed an interest in 1/18 for myself and thus landed here long ago! Now it is starting to happen with the cars too. I guess I am re-living my youth through him. Although a good thing, as I have reconnected with many of my early car buddies through clubs and shows. Seems I took a hiatus to have a career and raise a family.
