F-104 Starfighter pics....

Post by 75th Ranger » Thu Jun 30, 2005 3:45 pm

Hello guys!
I posted some pics ofthe plane...
Before you go and look at them let me tell you that i'm more better of a shot than I'm a photographer and my camera lacks good good detail capabilities.
Hopefully i would be able to fix that some day...That is the main reason why i had never posted pics before.
I ask for your understanding in the lack of quality of the pics but i wanted to show some previews. By no means i intend to ffend anyone or 21st by the lack of the quality of the pics but it is all i can do with my low resolution pic, and bad pulse..hahaha! give me an M-16 any day!
Well, hope that at least you get an idea of how the plane looks like.

Uhm, 75th, I see a big problem - the plane is still in the box!

There's a team player. Spends his time posting pictures for the rest of us rather than busting that box open and pulling the plane out. Good form!

What's with the green box?? I NEVER expected to see old packaging like that. Wierd!!

-Ski

ps: I would leave the thing in the box if I were you. You never know if the main production run features the blue boxes! It could be a rare bird.....

Sometimes 21st says thanks for the help with a little free product once in a while. My most recent gift? The new Starfigher! (silver airfoce scheme).

I have been around the prototype a couple times now but I still haden't seen the final product till today!

What a COOL plane! I really was impressed with the detail and nice extra touch pieces that I was surprised to see.

Here is my Fan perspective on this new piece.

1. Paint and QC is much improved this time around! Really you will be amazed. There is some really small warnings all over this plane and you can read them all!

2. Over all construction... in one word? Impressive! Much better than the prototype I had held earlier! I was really concerned about sag from the wing tanks. But believe me every part that you assemble is snug and seats nice and firm into place with ZERO play! The canopy is VERY well done and has nice firm hidden hinges.

3. The landing gear on this plane.... this is my favorite moving parts on the plane! each gear is spring loaded and locks firmly into place with smooth action. When people start to get these you will know exactly what I am talking about!

4. Sidewinders! VERY cool! nicely painted and removable with removable rails.

5. Pilot figure. Better articulation, great accessories with removable helmet, mask, chute. The face is still a little weird (has that holy crap I'm bull riding a rocket look) but with all the extra effort I will forgive the pilot expression. A head swap with the smoking Marine figure might be in order! (the pilot has turned off the no smoking sign...)

6. Pilot tube (needle) for the front. why does it get its own topic? Because 21st get points for thinking through the idea and need for 2 types! 1 is rigid and made of hard plastic for a surpurb look! the other is a soft bendable kind so you can bump it and not break it!!!! A nice touch and attention to playability / diorama detail.

This finished product is one beauty! I normally wouldn't rate a product for you here like this. But after seeing it out of the box and comparing it to the prototype... my expectations were surpassed this time around. I had questioned the choice to build the F-104 in the beginning. But this plane really is impressive in person. For sure an "out of the box plane" to fully appreciate it.

...now for the Avenger that shipped with it! ...ok I was just playing, no Avenger yet! Still waiting... err sweating it out!

I will snap some pics tonight for you guys. I might have to post them up on Area-21 if you guys don't mind? Its the easiest way for me to post pics. I will use my macro lens on my good camera so I can get in close to the detail for you.

I wouldn't expect a Phantom any time soon. When I asked Roy about it, he mentioned that they did a paper mock-up of it and it would of been prohibitally expensive, large and too heavy to produce. The size alone was too much. So, unless we see a miracle, I wouldn't put too much money on it, unfortunately. It would be cool as hell, though....
