21st Century 1/6 AH-6?

Any comments on the 21st Century 1/6 AH-6 Little Bird?..Is this a good model to own for $50?

All you need is the room to display it. With the rotors in flying position, it takes up half a room of displace space.

Mine has been sitting in my basement and now garage since I got it. It is a great model, add an armed co-pilot and you are cooking (mine came with a pilot only). Add a set of instrument panel decals and it looks even better.

The only drawback are weak landing struts. They tend to weaken but mine haven't broken (from the weight) in five years of sitting on the struts.

For $50? Great buy, assuming everything (rockets, guns) are there. Good price even without the weapons, and you you can rig a bench seat on the sides and carry troopers ala Black Hawk Down.

Thanks for the info. I just ordered a mint AH-6 with pilot for $50 plus $25 shipping.

Questions:
1. Are co-pilot and a Delta Force figures available?
2. What was the original price of the 1/6 AH-6?...(Badcat has it for $300-Private Reserve).

BBI made a modern Apache Pilot and 21c made a Vietnam era pilot. BBI's includes some nice modern stuff, but the helmet is unique to the Apache. 21c's helmet might be a good replacement. Both are OOP but can be found from time to time.

Here's a coupla quick finds for the Delta Force, no connection with the sellers. Just giving you an idea of what's out there.

Thanks. I saw the Dragon 1/6 Delta Force figure on Monkeydepot several weeks ago--it sold out at around $96.

Do you recognize the 1/6 special ops figure in the 3 photos I posted above?

Not sure I'd seen any in the all black uniform. One of them looks like this guy, but from the text at the bottom it's a custom, read it you might get some better idea then my own quick lookover. He seems to have several figures he's made up from DML, BBI, 21c, and others also.

Blue Box made Delta Force figures early on, and they can still be found. Go to Ebay and search BBI DELTA. There's one up right now for Buy It Now at $29.99.

Don't know if that's what you're looking for, but they are rather inexpensive.

I can't remember exactly, but I think I paid between $60 and $75 when they were on the shelf at TRU.

I have been using the 21C VN era pilot as my co-pilot. With the helmet nobody can tell any difference.

The pic posted here of the ranger sitting on the rocket launcher ready for trouble seems kind of silly. Guys just wouldn't sit on the launcher as a normal course of events.

That said, I believe an Apache saved a small group of guys in Afgan by lifting the guys up a hillside to safety when ambushed and the guys sat on rocket pods. I think that was last year but it was an emergency.

If you see BHD you'll see the rangers on Little Birds without rockets or guns, I believe they were four guys to a bird on bench seats on each side..

If I remember correctly, I got mine at TRU for around $60. The box was huge and crushed on two corners but the piece was untouched. Getting the bird on clearance and not paying shipping was a happy day...

I have seen them go for around $200 on EBay, more than once.

I got a 1/6 LOACH in 2002, I think. I was really nice! I also had the 1/6 Mutt at the time, plus several VN era figures and weapons sets.

The LOACH was just SO big. It did take up a lot of space.

Around 2003 I sold it off, along with the Mutt (kept a few figures - still have them stowed away) so I could focus on 1:18.

It was a great piece, though. I think I bought it on clearance from TRU.com, with free shipping (big box!). Don't recall what I paid.

The Mutt I purchased online from KB Toys, for $25 and free shipping. Another steal.

OK, back to 1:18....

With a little extra detailing, the 21C Littlebird is a fantastic piece. I redid one into more authantic OH-6B Cayuse config, but it took awhile to complete. This is what she looks like now....

Oh...and beside the obvious external and internal changes, I redid the skids and cured that weakness perminantly. It's not that difficults to do....but time consuming.

I do that. I engineered so that there are three florescent lights off the body of the heli. I have done a few and sold them to different clients. I have done them all, OH-6B, Black op, Police and Fire. I currently have the Fire version in my game room.

OK guys....if you want the "skinny" on how the skids were redone....it'll cost you!
Naw....just kidding. Take the skids off (three screws in the belly on each side). You will have the skid legs and the molded-in skids attached. Cut the plastic skids off right at the bottom of the legs and throw them away! Also hollow out the skid legs from behind (leave the outside surface untouched). Take brass sheet (thick) and just wide enough to fit inside the interior of the skid leg you just hollowed out. Bend a lazy "L" in the brass at the top so that it covers the screw hole at the top of the leg and epoxy the brass to the leg completely. Once the epoxy is cured completely, re-drill the mounting hole at the top through the brass. Get some thinner brass sheet (you don't need but maybe two 4" pieces (per side) and two (brass or aluminum) tubes long enough to go from just aft of the back leg to about the farthest forward of the nose glass (it actually is longer than the "stock" skids). To put the bend in the skids themselves tape one end shut and fill the tube with water and freeze overnight. Then carefully bend the skid up at the front until it looks right and repeat for the other skid tube. Run warm water over it until all the ice inside is gone. The two 4" pieces are wrapped around the tube at the bottom of the legs and attached by two small nut/bolts per leg (I found some great inexpensive ones at the model train department). Once everything is together, fill the back of the hollowed out legs AND the ends (both) of each skid with Bondo car body putty...sand smooth and paint. When you are done the skids look almost exactly like before (except longer like they should be) and they are strong as can be. Mine has sat on those legs for a couple of years now and have not sagged a milimeter. This is what they look like from the underside when finished..I told you it was easy but time consuming....didn't I???
