BBI F4U CORSAIR!
Time will tell
Ferguson is correct, there are a lot of more interesting possibilities than an F4U. But remember, we afficionados do not a whole market make. With general day in and day out sales, this choice will probably do fine. I should be a good, solid, steady seller for the dealers who stock it.

I may be wrong, but I may be right. There are still many, many subjects out there, why do the manufacturers copy what has already been done rather than stike a new path? BBI doing P-40s, F4Us, and P-47s? Why? I just don't get it.
heh, heh
There was also this exchange....
sorry bbi does not make a corsair or plan to, i wish they would.
Are you sure? There is a bbi Corsair listed in the TRU computer.
Trust us, they aren't making a Corsair.............maybe the Zero, but not a Corsair.......
I am sure, I sell BBI toys www.aviatornut.com and I am in contact with BBI several times a week.

cool
Hello,
This airplane looks really cool. I will defintely have to get one as I want to see if the wings work any better than the 21st version. I personally was never happy with ther 21st version for that very reason, and the fact everyone I ever saw had crap crap crap for paint.
Glad to see BBI is doing this stuff and hey all they are doing is doing wat 21st did, but a little better with a little more quality in my opinion.
This is where I think 21st announcing products and having royal screwups such as QC issues, paint issues and no new product kills them a ton. All they are doing is feeding BBI the information and truthfully, BBI is smart to follow their lead. They are looking at what 21st does and usually making it better, ouch!
BBI is also doing some very smart, another American plane. I think a lot of people will buy American planes more than German planes. They are more familar with them and everytime I go to an airshow, I hear kids asking where a P-51 or a Corsair is, not a 190 per say. BBI is really doing a good marketing job and guess what, they will sell these Corsairs. I think they are good at getting us to buy them, and riding the wake of people who possibly don't want to pay or can find the 21st one. Good marketing!
I may just have to get one of these, I still have to find Killer too. I like the BBI planes better, just better quality. Hey at least we finally got something. I can see them doing a P-40 or P-47 next
Anyone take notice how they do for the most part, American stuff. That should help us see what they may or may not do next. i personally think Japanese stuff or German stuff for them, is out of the question. British, possibly

perhaps 21st and bbi are in league with one another? for example:
first, 21st makes all the necessary molds and then produces a few versions of a plane. next, 21st sells the molds to bbi, who polishes the molds a bit and reruns the plane! in effect, the artificial sale creates market demand for a pre-existing aircraft where otherwise there would be none.
how's that for a conspiracy theory? now back to reality.
i too am disappointed by bbi's selection of the corsair. not to say i won't buy one, b/c i'm sure it will be tempting. but, come on, look at the paint scheme. its almost as if kepford's and pappy's corsair have inbred to produce an unholy offspring with rockets.
oh well, i'm gonna go out on a limb and say there will probably be at least one repaint down the road.
nonetheless, hopefully this release bodes well for the future. towards brighter tomorrows!

BBI Corsair
I agree with some of the folks on this thread. Odd choice of markings. The A/C itself is a F4U-1D model, with dual tanks and rockets. A smarter -and correct- paint scheme would've been late war overall blue. Navy or Marine. Markings could've included the neat geometric carrier wing markings. A yellow band on the cowl for raids on the Japanese home islands in early '45.
I don't mind a repeat of the Corsair, but not the same paint scheme that has already been done!
I also agree that some of the BBI's Corsair's lines look a bit 'off' -in particular the canopy. The detail looks good, but I'd rather have accurate shape over the details.

I am both excited and disappointed. I am glad to see something new from BBI, but I am disappointed that they keep following in 21C's footsteps. I wish they would've done a F4U-4 with the four bladed prop instead of the exact same model as 21C's F4U-1D. A F4U-4N with the radar pod on the wing would have been cool too. Oh well, I'll probably wait and see about buying this one. Maybe if some boardmembers get one and give it a positive review I might pick one up.

Comparison
Centone,
I had all the first series 21st stuff when it first came out. But I eventually sold it as the P-51 got knocked off the shelf and broke and I just lost interest in the items. I am more into early flight stuff than World War II these days.
I picked up a Killer for my one nephew for Christmas and so he didn't break it, I opened it and put it together for him. Relax, it is hanging in his room so he can't ruin it, not til he's older. Anyway just looking at it and comparing it to what I remember from the 21st planes I did have, the quality for BBI is better. I remember the four 21st planes I had even though I picked good ones had so many paint problems. I do think the newer 21st planes are better, but not all the time. I am mainly a looker shopper these days, sorry guys I have to pay for a truck, home and a ton of other stuff right now, I am doing very little extra buying.
So I have seen planes from both companies and do feel BBI offers better quality. My real thing I want to see is how BBI did the wing folding on the Corsair. This was my real pet peeve with the 21st Corsair, mine broke after the first time. There are probably some things wrong with it. But it's probably a great plane

Fog aside I don't see what's wrong with the canopy?
The pre-order is 50 beans....not bad. They are on the water so I hope the same can be said for the Paras! I hope online guys get those or else we are at the mercy of tru distribution.....

I dont know but from looking at the photos on BC Website this Corsair may be a winner save for the canopy. It looks very well done. I was disapointed at first on seeing another F4U but again guys I dont know. From the product discription it looks to be as good as the BBI P-51 release was and much better then the 21st F4U's that we have seen. The hinged flaps really interest me as well as the paint scheme. I only wish they would have done an F4U from VF-17 because it would have looked really good next to my "Ike" Corsair. I was thinking that if I buy it I would take the wings and replace the Kepford ones with them BUT I dont know if that would work because of the paint scheme and so fourth. Plus the cost makes me wonder if I should do that as well. I'll have to wait and see I guess.
As for BBI following 21st Centurys lead my mind has changed about that to. If BBI can make it a little better then 21st then why not? What harm can it really do? It just ups the stakes a little more thats all. Its just nice to see that BBI is still around and kicking which is a good thing and it also makes me wonder what other planes BBI may plan on doing.
In my opinion their Mustang was a winner and I'm sure their Corsair will be one as well.

new corsair
Is there a gap where the wing attaches or is that just me?
Anyway, just like armor guys get 6 Tigers before they get a Panzer III, AC fans should expect Mustangs & Corsairs out the...
....
I agree it would be nice if bbi had the nuts to take a first crack at a WWII plane, but you can't blame them for playing it safe with a familiar bird, and just improving on it. It seems that is their plan with WWII - the Sherman, Paras, Mustang and Corsair all seem to be upgrades on the various 21st versions of the same pieces. (And can someone please make paras without a member of the "dirty thirteen"?
)
I wouldn't mind an upgraded Panther though - with Skirts, Zimmer & an Interior.
What's funny is that after getting burned on the P-47 bbi has taken the opposite approach to new releases - purposefully have them come second so they can improve on the first. I just wish they skipped the Corsair if they plan to release a plane a year.

Sigh.
This release is good for the hobby, I guess (trying to be positive).
But dammit, I won't be buying another Corsair any time soon, even if it does step up (supposedly) the level of detail a notch or two.
I want to expand the breadth (# of different a/c) of my collection, not depth (# of repaints).

It was an easy call to go with the BBI P-51, since XD was so bad.
The XD F4U is pretty nice so I am not as inclined to buy a BBI unless the subject is a must have.
I guess next is a P-40B.
Disapointing when there are so many untouched subjects, really.
Hellcat, Zero, Airacobra etc.
I know BBI can pull it off if the just would pick the right planes to model.
I will only have so many P-51/F4U's
3 and 3, they must be really good for me to give up the dollars.

Interest
It is probably in our best interest as collectors to see something other than P-51s, 109s, and F4Us. It may prove, however, to be in BBI's best interest to produce exactly what they have done.
