Humvee ?

Post by Fritzkrieg » Tue Mar 03, 2009 11:41 pm

I was looking at the 21st and BBI Humvees and noticed that the grills are different. Can anyone tell me which is the more accurate version?

The bbi Humvees are slightly overscale. The 21C Humvee is spot on scale, and has much more detail, both underneath and in terms of features such as the working gate. This is comparing the standard bbi humvee to the standard 21C. Not the Super Humvee or any of the later 21C Humvee derivatives.

Does that equipment on the top of the 21C Humvee come off and stows away for just a flat roof? At $9.99, that's an extremely great price but can do without that accessory.

If you mean the radio unit and the TOW launcher, yes, they come off.

Isn't that box on the top of the turret the TOW guidance system?

That's sounds right - when I don't have the launcher in I always thought of it as a radio but it really shouldn't be on without the launcher.

I'm still wondering why the grills are different on the BBI and 21st models. I thought they were all the same.

I figure it was most probably a way for 21stCT to avoid having to pay a license fee to GM!

I also think that the 21stCT grill is supposed to represent some kind of externally fitted filter kit?

Anyone out there who can share pictures of these side by side??I am also wondering if the newer BBI versions have improved in detail and/or size.

I know the Super Humvee was a bit longer and bigger in general. The other "newer" bbi Humvees are the same mold as the original. I'm afraid my comparison photos only exist 2 or 3 hard drives ago.

I do have a pic of the very nice PTE open bed Humvees next to a bbi Super Humvee that I can post later when I have access to my photobucket account.

Ok, I realize this doesn't help for the comparison b/w the bbi and 21C (though the grill in the photo above is just like the 21C I think), but here you can see the Super Humvee is about the same length as the PTE humvee. they are both a bit bigger than 21C.

yea, PTE. Like most PTE, you never know when or where it will show, and how it will be packaged. Those might have come in a set with the Long Tom. They are great variety and wish PTE also did them in sand color.

It's a long shot but you can check Big Lots for the PTE Humvees. The 1/6 PTE stuff tends to disappear from Big Lots by Christmas or shortly after but the 1/18 stuff tends to stick around a little longer. I don't think that version of the PTE Humvee was available this past season though so you would have to get real lucky to find one right now. Most Big Lots tend to start stocking PTE stuff sometime in Aug. By the first of the year they are no longer stocking PTE until the next summer. Other places where PTE was carried this past season were JCPenney's website and the Sears Canada website. As far as I know I don't think they were available anywhere else except possibly from a few online retailers.
