I brought the book with me in theater, so hopefully I will get to read the damn thing. Hope the movie is good. We'll see how accurate it is. If they turn it into some Schwartzenegger flick, I'll be pissed.

One of my favorite patches in my collection is an original 6th Ranger Bn Patch. Watch, it will start going for $100 on E-Bay now, LoL!!!!

Off the top of my head, I believe the 6th Ranger Bn was the only Ranger unit in the PTO......

"Ghost Soldiers" by Hampton Sides is one of the best war books I have ever read! I would put it right along side "Black Hawk Down", "Band of Brothers", "The Killer Angels", or "We Were Soldiers Once and Young". A must read for anyone interested in military history (or really anyone).
I saw the preview for "The Great Raid" yesterday at Fantastic Four and without knowing this was even in production I realised within a few seconds what story the preview was for. I was bummed to think I would miss seeing it in theaters due to my own impending military deployment, but I am amazed to read here that it opens in just the nick of time! I will have to see it opening day but I should be able to squeeze it in!
Thanks for the good news!

I was watching the making of of the Great Raid on Spike last night. Looks pretty good, cant wait to see it. It looks as if Dale Dye is the military advisor so this film is in good hands. Anyway I'll be there on the 12th!

Take care,
Joe

I thought it was kind of slow...it took SOOOO long to get to the battle. And when they acually raided they never showed any US being shot at or any thing...Even though it said only one US got hit...It was kind of boring seeing all the japenese die and only 1 US. I give it a.....5/10 :?

DVSk89:

Those events were based on real events, and when you raid/ambush someone, you don't want them to shot you back!!!

And some of the Japanese did shot back, but they werer caught by surprise and were not an effective force. They were routed and pinned down; therefore, the Rangers were under control.

There were 2 casualties of the event. and some wounded.
Also in reality, it takes longer to plan and reherse a plan than what it would take to accomplish the mission, there is a motto in the military: "TRAIN HARD, FIGHT EASY"....so think about it because the movie deserves at least a 10 out of 10!

if you want hollywood then rent the "Transporter"..hahahahahaha!
