How about a section for small guys selling conversions?

Post by Threetoughtrucks » Wed Mar 04, 2009 12:43 pm

We have Pickel and TheHun doing these really great conversions or just new 1/18 pieces.

The door is open for anybody else with the talent to make new stuff.

Wouldn't it be to every body's advantage to have all this info in one place? That is, who's making what, at what cost and how to get on the buyers waiting list. I assume deposits are in order, that's only fair to the manufacturers.

I guess, I'm just feeling little symptoms of withdrawal after the MD sale-a-thon and I want more, even if is only on to a waiting list.....

I'm always up for more customs work. I'm not big on the vehicle customs, but I make between 5-10 custom soldiers a week. I just started a second batch of modern troops. Take a look here and see what I've made.

Awesome - I love the fig bashing. Always great to see what you can make with what is already out there. Makes you appreciate what we have. Keep sharing.

I think it would be a great idea to have a separate area for the custom guys to promote and sell their wares in here. Not only would it make the information easier find for interested buyers, people who are interested more in discussions about mass market items wouldn't have to wade through all the custom sales posts in the general forum.
Failing that, and after having seen Fritz's fantastic work, guys like him should take more advantage of the promotional opportunities here, and post about their items for sale in the general forum; like Pickel does.

I do however find that when custom guys come on to a general discussion thread and turn it into an 'about me' thread to be somewhat of a turnoff.

I don't mean to offend anyone, TTT asked the question, and that's my answer. :D

Well My take on this , is this. I like the way things are now.

First I am a collector of XD. I live and breath it. When I found this site a few years ago I died and gone to heaven. THERE ARE OTHER GUYS ON THIS PLANET JUST LIKE ME.

I have been customizing for years , I love doing it. Quite a few years back I worked hand in hand with the Hun with some of his customs. It was fun. I DID IT NOT TO MAKE A DIME , JUST FOR THE FUN OF IT.

Some people have told me in the past that I was not too bad with my customs so I started doing more . I did a step by step a while ago with a P-36 this turned into a major project then I decided maybe somebody else may want one as well.

I sold a few. NOT ENOUGH TO EVEN COVER THE COST OF THE RTV. Then I did some more customs. Thinking that XD collectors may want these as well.

In the middle of one of the later projects . The bottom just dropped out in my regular job. So these projects ended up putting bread on the table. BUT NOT ENOUGH BREAD.

I have made a few more projects that I purposely under charged so other guys could afford it . I even made the V-1 dolly that I actually lost money knowing I would lose money on it but made it anyway. Why ? Because I am a collector first .

So yes I do take offense. I am not getting rich on these things. I can't even pay my bills with them. Yes sometimes I refer to my customs in other peoples post , because it pertains to the subject. The Pavehawk custom That I am about ready to start casting. Other people publicly asked me if I could do the customs. I WAS ASKED . I DID NOT HORN IN ON THE POST.

There are times I don't think these projects are worth the trouble.

So why I am doing it then ?

Sometimes I wonder.

Hell, that's easy. You do it because you love it. Not for the recognition or the money. It's the same reason I spend my money and apply my meager skills towards the repaints and 1 or 2 true custom projects I've begun(and still a long way from finishing).

I apprecitate the heck out of all the work the super-customizers post on this forum. It allows me to see that such projects are indeed within the realm of possibility. Even if I never manage to monkey it out myself.
If at first you don't succeed, try, try again. Then quit. No use being a damn fool about it.
