What's next from BBI?
What's next from BBI?
Since we haven't heard much from 21st Century, what do you think BBI will have to offer in 1/32 scale this year?

* Your guess is as good as mine. I don't expect anything as far as any new offerings from them IMHO.

Since BBI is making a lot of Naval aircraft... here's hoping for an 1/32 F6F Hellcat.

RAD 2112:
A few months ago one of the dealers mistakenly announced that BBI was releasing a 1/32 Vraciu Hellcat---but it was just a mistake by a sales rep who sent out the wrong info. Since BBI already has the 1/18 Hellcats still available, I think the chances for a 1/32 Avenger or Helldiver would be better...but I'm always wrong about this speculation.

I would be happy with a Hellcat or an Avenger, or for that matter a Helldiver.
None of these has been covered so far.
At least some repaints of the Dauntless, Wildcat and Phantom.

A colorful pre-war paint scheme for either the Wildcat or Dauntless would be sweet.Dauntless wrote:I would be happy with a Hellcat or an Avenger, or for that matter a Helldiver.

Yeah the die-cast Hobby Master is pretty cool. Little rich for me.
Wouldn't mind an A-24 Banshee. The US. Army's version of the SBD.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Douglas_A-24_USAF.jpg
If anything I would like a Midway version, or even a more colorful early Coral Sea version with red white striped tail rudder and red dotted star.
Hopefully we'll get the 1943 Navy version we've seen pics of even.
Maybe an Atlantic version of the Wildcat in the Block Island colors of grey like the 21st Avenger, or as you say a British Martlet.

Yes the Hobby Master offering is very nice but also too rich for my poor wallet.
A later Wildcat FM-2 would be awesome, but that would involve changes to the mold.

That red outline is cool! Kind of an oddity.
My understanding is they took the red dot and red and white stripes off (or painted over them rather) of US Navy Planes by 1942 so as to not have any confusion with the red meatball of the Imperial Navy.
It's kind of confusing that they put a red outline in 1943, then removed it.
Don't quite know the specifics of this story.
The USAAF brought the red and white tail striping back on some of it's aircraft late in the war though.
The P-51D "Miss Bonnie" is an example of that.

I like the 1/48 White 17 Hellcat for that reason.Rowsdower wrote:Nice. For some reason I've always been a sucker for that red bordered 1943 US insignia and any plane wearing it.![]()
Here's an interesting link, but it doesn't give a reason as to why they changed the red border...

They removed the "meatball" from the center because they wanted to prevent trigger happy US and allied AA gunners and other pilots from mistaking it for the Japanese rising sun. From what I've read they wanted red white and blue back in the insignia so the red outline were added but shortly thereafter removed in '44 leaving just the familiar blue outline to again avoid mistaken identity. After the war in '47 when the USAF was created the red finally returned as the stripe in the center of the blue outline. Now today we get the "low visibility" grey scale star and bars which sucks imo. I really can't see where having the colored insignia would be such a problem in todays combat situations.
The 1:48 Aleutian Tigers P-40 also sports the red outlined insignia and has always been one of my favorite P-40 schemes.

Yeah, I love that scheme all the way around on the P-40.
That and the silver Tony are the only 21st 1:48's I bought.
I was hoping 21st would get to the P-40E model in 1:32 before they went kaput, along with the Hellcat.
I can't remember seeing the yellow bordered star in the PTO very much. Trying to remember if at all?
Mostly in Operation Torch in the ETO. Lots of P-40's, P-38's and tanks and such.

All right... here is what I want you to do... I want you to go to your window and I want you to open your window and stick your head out and start yelling... "I'm mad as h*ll and I'm not gonna take it anymore! I want a 1/32 scale P-38 and I want it NOW!!!"

OK... who here is old enough to remember this reference?
