What should the next custom XD be ? Finals

Post by pickelhaube » Sun Feb 08, 2009 9:18 am

Well there was a little more response to the quarter finaly than the original post. We are now at the finals. There is a LOT of P-39 fans out there. I am one of them. I remember building the 1/48 shark mouth Revell kit when I was a kid. I always thought that model was so cool. Here is the forum's chance to choose what will be the next aircaft built by me that will be produced in the semi near future.

BTW I already have scale 1/18 prints for these . Making the scale prints are one of the most fun parts of customizing. You can see the size and shape instantly. I wish making them was as easy. COME ON 3D REPLACATOR. :D :D :D

John Wayne : Mine was taller

I'm still going with the He-162 Salamander. How about some Luft '46 projects.... 8)

Just out of curiosity, how feasible would it be to do a small twin, like a Mosquito or Me-410?

Salamander...we already have the 262 from Admiral and 21C, Komet form Skyworks, now we need the HE 162 to finish the jets off.

The Mossie is not that small. As far as the 410 I would rather do the 110 instead. I have always loved the wasp squadron.

Looks like we need about 10 more votes. Is the P-39 going to be a landslide ? I really think that the He -162 would be a lot simpler. The skin was all wood so panel lines are at a minimum. It used the same engine as the 262. The only thing other than the canopy that could be an issue is the " V " tail. Not so much the build but how do I make so the average guy can put it together.

Mosey up to the bar and cast your vote.

The Mosquito is wood too. :) Huge but man, that would be better than sex!
No panel lines either?

You could still make the He- 162, as a "top contender" "greatest hits" model. I wouldn't complain.

Not to break up the thread, but was any original Russian aircraft in the mix? There is such a lack (IE none) of Russian vehicles from world war II or modern eras. A Yak 9 or a Mig 3 especially would have been amazing.

How much would one of these cost to get on board?

Hey Paul the Mig was in the original top 10. It was droped like a hot potatoe.

Alas one of my favs. But I will build it within the next 5 years

As far as the Mossie' price. That is a big ticket item probably at least $300-$400 for the kit. It is about 2 1/2 the size as Skyworks Me-163 and he has sold about 30 of those.

Man, that's no good. Despite its turbulent service, that is one sexy plane. If you build one of those i would totally be down for one. But that doesn't help you now though... :o
