Mini Famo SDkfz7/11 update

Post by General Blasto » Tue Dec 09, 2008 7:04 am

Well I finally got around to workin' on my "Mini Famo" half track last night and yesterday. I ironed out some bugs on it to get it closer to sendin' to the paint shop :) I worked on the side grill work - Let me tell you this was no picnic  I also completed a better gear rack on the back, then added the soft top. Then I cleaned up the area between the front wheels and the track. Here's some pictures:

I hope to(at some point today  ) do the reinforced trim on the edges of the body plates and put in the appropriate rivits. Then, she'll be about ready to send westward for a new coat of paint 8)

Before I ship her off, I will be takin' a few measurements as to start the second one of these beasties, BUT it will be slightly different as to not having the rear seat, but a box on a flat bed with fold down sides and one of Matt's wondeful quad flaks centered in that box.

I don't remember the correct model number for that AA Famo,
Someone please list it here so I know what to call it :?

Thanks :D

Ah, it's not for sale or trade :?
Nor is the next one or one after that.
BUT, I have a thread further down that'll help give you an idea on how to make one yourself ;) Lot's of work in it and 4 models had to be used to make it too. One Indy truck, two indy troop cars and one Hanomag is what you'll need to build one. Yet the next one which will be like the SDkfz 7/1 will only need one troop car, but will use the bed of the Indy truck to mount the quad flak on.

Da General

ps. your M113 looks nice, but I mostly model the Hun's forces.
Stock shermies and half tracks is all it takes to feed my Tigers and Panthers  :P

Great work! General.
Is there anything left after you put the 4 vehicles under the knife?
If so, it would be neat to see what you could combine the left over into... 8)

Indeed the new paint on this model will look nice in the tri color Normandy scheme 8) Razor, I have a box of parts/pieces left over from the bashes. One note of intrest - the hanomag left over without the tracks had US WC 61 chassie added to it, thus making the dragon wagon. I wanted to make a SDkfz 222, but couldn't get the back tires/sides figured out. I saw some pictures sent to me of the mod. I made out of the SDkfz 250 and I added a modified bradley(modern) turret and came up with something cool. I hope to pull off the SDkfz 7/1 build and then move on to something a bit larger, and heavier. I plan on choppin' on a panther frame and make an early Jagdtiger. But only time will tell. I've been told to use the KT frame, but the panther is sooo close and I have so many of them :)

Well, for those who've asked or commented on the extra indy vehicle parts, here's where they went to - at least those that didn't get used on other projects ;)

Image

And for the comment on donating the rest of the SDkfz251, not availible - it was used to make another battle wagon.

Image

I intend to make another one of these when I build the SDkfz 7/1.

THey are pretty easy to make, just take your time 8)

Yep, that's like Double vision PH :P
As for the SDkfz 7/11 I'm making, I've just picked up the project again and completed the one side with the trim along the top of the plating. I will finish the drivers side and take some photos before packing it up to send off to the paint shop with some other items. Good photos will allow me to make notes for the SDkfz 7/1, then I can start that project and the second Dragon wagon. I've got the quad flak to play with and will put in an order for the shield and ground mount that I will use to mount it in the bed of the SDkfz 7/1. I will post the pictures of the first SDkfz 7 when I get it ready ;)
