These both actually used to list as '08 when they were first posted if I recall correctly. Why on earth they were updated to '09 is anyone's guess, but I'm not sure why Motor Pool would continue to list them, no less update them to a new year. So is Motor Pool saying that Admiral is going to knock out both of these, because it's sure not going to be 21st.
Maybe I've got my years wrong, but I sure don't remember 21st saying they were going to deliver them in '09.
Either way, it's not like I've got any hopes up. It's just a strange thing to list them at this point.
(btw, The Motor Pool is a solid outfit and I'd recommend them to anyone)

I'll believe it when I have it in my cold, greedy hands.
Even 21st's King Tiger's release is in doubt...and We've SEEN actual production photos of that particular model.
What's the chance of the MiG and Phantom appearing? both aircraft most likely twice as big, and twice as complex as the King Tiger...and we've seen nothing about them, other than a flashy graphic and a dubious Tamiya 1/32 model.

21st 1:18 Aircraft
Hello All,
Let me start by saying I understand your frustration at not being able to own either of these two aircraft. Having said that, let me try to explain the situation as best we can without stepping on anyone's toes.
When last we spoke with our rep at 21st about these aircraft, the person indicated they were still being developed and that they were looking at a 2009 release. No timeframe was given beyond that, and nothing more was discussed about pricing, features, look, etc.
So, old information isnt necesarily inaccurate information. Heck, there are Minichamps items where we've had to wait over two years before we could ship them out. By that time, several customers that placed early pre-orders were no longer interested, moved, passed away, etc.
The point is, these are short-run collectibles offered to a world that has come to expect everything "now." These arent hamburgers you order at a drive-up window, sweaters you can pick up at the mall, or a newspapers containing yesterday's news. By belittling a vendor for not releasing an item sooner rather than later really doesnt do anyone any good. If they released them early, and there were problems with either bird, then some of you would squawk as much, telling the company they should've waited to get everything fixed before they released them. Frankly, you cant have it both ways.
I'm not looking to lecture anyone but the point is that there really is alot of other items you can enjoy in the meantime without going on and on about why they havent been released yet.
Give the manufacturer a break and let them work out the kinks before the browbeating games begins anew...

I'm actually just surprised that 21st would be doing a new development, based on everything I've heard i.e. that all new development was canned.Give the manufacturer a break and let them work out the kinks before the browbeating games begins anew...
Either way, thanks for the post. Trust me, I can wait for these two, especially the Phantom. It would be a nice surprise to actually have the Phantom produced. I'd be in heaven.

Actually, we'll have it "none ways". These models will be long overdue by the time they hit the stores, will no doubt retail at an exhorbitant price and will sport the same old QC defects we've come to expect from 21st.lightning2000 wrote:By belittling a vendor for not releasing an item sooner rather than later really doesnt do anyone any good. That is, if they're ever released by 21st.
BTW, anyone remember how 21st was supposedly bound to improve their QC process to match their new pricing strategy? Riiight.
And what became of the Most Anticipated Release of 2006 (i.e. the Bush Avenger, IIRC)? Will this be out in 2009? Guess not! Ditto for the Pappy Boyington special edition and the Mig Mad Mavis.
But of course it's always the customer's fault for complaining too much and expecting releases to be on schedule.

Anyway, I still don't get how mass producing toys is any different from mass producing other consumer products. Unless they're truly "short-run collectibles," in whch case 21st is doing a piss-poor job of upholding a decent quality standard, IMO.

Man, I don't know how I do it. I'm still optimistic about everything. I'd kill for both of them, the MiG especially. Where I'm going to put them, well that'll be adressed for when the time comes.
But I have other hobbies, other collections to keep me at bay. The only thing I will complain about is that I won't be getting my 1/18 jets at retailers. Nor my 1/32 BBI planes. Which sucks because there's nothing better in my opinion than the hunt itself.
I love this hobby, and to be honest, it's taught me to be more patient and I hope in the coming years we see a whole lot more.
