D-Day XD Spitfire Stripes Reversed!

Post by Teamski » Thu Oct 28, 2004 6:23 pm

Funny,

I don't know if this was mentioned before, but I was admiring my D-Day Spitfire and was looking in the profile album. I just noticed that the XD D-Day Spitfire is completely wrong. For some reason, 21st reversed the colors of the D-Day stripes!!! I can't believe that I didn't notice this before. Well, that's gotta be a pretty big error though not as bad as the Shark P-38........

It won't be long before you will have to dedicate another room to your collection!! Are you going to start hanging them any time soon?? You can wire your lighted ones to the house and they can hang lit!!

Ski- You have no idea how on the money that remark is! I was talking with my business partner today about renting a storage unit just keep them safe untill I build the dream "hobby shed" in the back yard. I have drawn up the plans and its gonna be sick! I have it designed it to display 120 planes on shelves and another dozen hung from rafters. I need to have a good year in 2005 to justify the 12k that it will require to construct. Im thinking an open house err hanger will be in order. Complete with orange a white striped wind sock.... My wife is gonna love it! The Sharples airbase currently fields 41 aircraft. So a hanger is in major order!

You ain't kidding! With bbi in the mix, there will definately be an explosion of airplanes and repaints with the 109G being at the top of that pile. What a beaut!!

I have two rules when it comes to collecting these 1:18 scale planes and I am strictly abiding by them....

1- The item must have wings.

2- Any 1:18 scale planes produced will be purchased by me reguardless of paint scheme. If none are to be found to purchase in any given month, An extra plane is to be purchased for the sake of a custom paint scheme to pass the time till the next production model.

Pretty simple really.

Hardcore rules that Walmart loves to hear!! $$$$$$$$$$

I'll just keep to the 2 plane rule- One in the box, one out of the box.......

I have a max out-of-box room of 12 planes. Of that, 9 are hanging. I share my room with my wife, so my hanging planes cannot enter her half of the room. I have tons more in boxes, mostly due to traders and repaints, damn them. There have been 10 different 1:18 scale fixed wing aircraft made between bbi and 21st (not including repaints of course). So I have room for the next 2 and then I'm in real trouble.

i calculate that if i really push it i can hang about 50 planes throughout my place. That excludes the bathroom only. I even have plans to hang a WWI dogfight at either end of my kitchen, if i can ever get the Aurora 1/19 kits (or somebody makes 1/18 WWI planes someday).

Now, being single, i am allowed to do this; although bringing home dates could get a bit dodgey. Not sure about that. For now i only have 6 planes hanging, all in my one secret room. But in time i'm going to have to branch out.

I was sad that i only had room for 50, as i can invision having hundreds of these things eventually.

Ski, i feel for you.

I'm an idiot, I meant Shark, not Snake!! The Shark P-38 is the worst plane of the whole XD line. It was supposed to be painted OD, which wasn't done. If you look at the original Snake photo in the Profile Album, it was an OD painted F-5 with camera windows in the nose. Terrible..........

The following is not a brag, but a confession from one collector to the others on the forum........

Since you guys are quoting numbers, I'll let you know that I have all of the XD airplanes and helicopters except 4 (Snake, Putt Putt, Korean Corsair and Chevron 190). Add doubles for all except for 4 as well..... Add bbi stuff and dupes of up to 4 for some and you have one hell of a mess!! mmmmmm.........That comes to roughly 65 planes give or take a few........... Now you imagine what my attic looks like.....

65! THE ATTIC?! Ah Ski, have you looked at any of them recently? I'd be afraid of the heat.
