My First 1:18 Tank!

Post by sharpy » Mon Oct 27, 2008 7:43 pm

I received my 1:18 Panzer 4 today. My first experience with xd and with this scale in WW2. Hooly moly this stuff rooooocks"!!!!!! I cant believe the level of deatail on this tank and the figures. I am coming from a backround of 1:72 and finding this stuff is like taking the red pill!
Roll on the rest of my squadies to turn up. On the basis of this tank I ordered a full set of the FOV WW2 figures. I then rang Modelzone, my local (manchester UK) supplier and asked if they did any 1:18. The guy on the phone said no, "we do 1:72, 1:35 and the ones that break your toes 1:16 diecast collectors"
I have since discovered World Peacekeepers over here for my little bird. Still not sure about the black hawk in that line though. But if the dolar keeps rising on the poind I think thats the only line I will be able to afford! I reckon I wll go for xd Japanese and US Marines though as those XD are seriously unbelievable!!

Well, now that you have taken the plunge, if you like the Panzer IV, then there is a a lot more armor you need to get and many of the other armor pieces have even more detail  Get the Tiger I, Sherman, M-41, Panther, M3 Halftrack, SDK 251 Hanomag, as well as the M-16 halftrack and any of the other existing Hanomag variants. All are great! The Tiger, M-41, and halftracks all have detailed interiors to boot, plus opening engines, hatches, storage bins and the like. I'm not even talking about the excellent smaller pieces like the Jeep, Kubelwagen, WC-51, WC-57, WC-63, M-17 trailer, Pak-40 and the like. 21c XD tanks are simply some of the best on the market 8)

Well I have a couple of 21c seal jeeps and a couple of bbi Abrams on the way. I am having problems getting hold of the other 21c armour I want due to the fall of the pound against the dollar. That and the expensive shipping for those big items. I want a tiger and Sherman really. The cheapest Tiger I can find in the UK is £55.
I am looking forward to building a few squads at the moment. I stumbled on a good supply of fov ww2 figs here and have 2 full sets on the way

Welcome to the jungle sharpy. Keep your eye out on ebay and some of the US etailers have good deals on figures and vehicles. I won't plug anyone in particular but I am sure by looking around prior posts you know who they are and can comparison shop for yourself.

Wow! The pound is back around $1.60! That is sort of where it was when I lived in England in 2003 and recently it was closer to the $2 mark. Time to head back there again when I get the chance. London is way cooler than Washington DC :P

My first 1:18 tank is the Tiger 1 Eastern Front Camo, and I hope it's not the last! I hope to get the Panzer IV! :D
