Custom painted 1:18 Aircraft TKO UPDATED 1/02 F-14 Vandy 1
When I start a new custom I will typically use a rag to dust off and clean up any stuff sitting on the surface. Then I mask off any of the markings canopy etc. all the stuff that I feel I can re-use for the finished model. I do this with Tamyia masking tape. (the best tape ever!). Then all I do spray on some surface primer to give me a nice flat gray canvas to work with.

Finally got around to taking pics of the Corsair I did. Experts might recognize this scheme and notice that i have not applied the FF59 on the side of the plane. I know it's supposed to have it but I am too busy enjoying the scheme as it is now. Perhaps someday in the future I will add that. Pics don't really do this one justice. It's really nice in person with the gloss blue paint.
Thanks for all the encouragement with my custom projects. It's fun to see reactions and also to get feedback. Today I spent abut 4 hours working on P-47 Razorback. It's a scheme that I have been wanting to see 21C do at some point. Got restless and decided to do it myself.
I also have a FW-190D-9 just about finished. That and my Avenger are both just missing the final markings. So I should have some fresh stuff in the coming weeks.
After those mentioned above I think I might tear into a Spitfire paint scheme, that and I REALLY need to get the F-86 I started into high gear.

um. well... It might not be too late for me to paint over the pink paint I just spent 30 minutes applying! Didn't realize that it was a not so loved scheme.STUKA wrote:not the pink one - say it aint so
LOL- Nope it's not gonna be pink!!! Thought about it and might do it some day. Not today and not this spitfire! This one will be different. I am hoping to paint on the final markings sometime tomorrow. GREAT progress over the weekend!
I have a couple more customs almost ready to go. Here is my status update of my progress.
Avenger (stalled out- needs final markings lost motivation as this one was a BEAST).
F-86 (stalled out - needs lots of work bit off more than I could chew at the moment with this one).
FW190D-9 (needed final markings till I broke a landing gear! !@#$ need a new wing now and then repaint it to match the fuse.) Going to circle back on this real soon and get this one DONE! Everything was going so well with this one too! !@#$)
Spitfire (looking sharp! Very happy. Final marking are going on tomorrow)
Thunderbolt Razorback (gone very smooth. final markings to be applied this week). Well known scheme.

Can't wait to see your new schemes, especially the Dora!tko211 wrote:Well I just masked off, and primer coated my only extra Spitfire. Goodbye DWK! Hello Mr. nice flat grey primer spitfire. Tomorrow it's getting some fresh paint.

Update:
Spitfire is DONE! Looks sick! (in a good way). I am really happy with it as the scheme seemed a little risky for to do on such a valuable bird. (spitfires don't grow on trees anymore and I was lucky to get this extra one... thanks again 21C)
I will shoot pics tomorrow and post them up on tuesday I think.
I think I might be able to fix the Dora's landing gear with out having to purchase a new wing and doing the repaint. Will have to see.
Also I just won an ebay auction for a F-18! Finally!!! It was like the 5th one I tried to win. I have a scheme all picked out for it. Wanted to do this one for a few months now. I just need to win this F-16 I am bidding on and I will be in great shape!
Thanks for the patience and encouragement from everyone on the forums. Keeps me going and now I am starting to see some light at the end of this major project as a whole.

Here is the Spitfire custom! I loved doing this plane in this scheme. My Russian P-40 needed a wing man and I really fell in love with the markings for this bird. Like usual, the markings are all painted on I also applied a very light weathering job on the the panel lines to make them pop.
Historically this plane should have a light spinner nose and an elaborate marking on the tail but I just really liked the darker spinner and the tail... well I might save that for another time. For now I am just really happy to have this spit in the collection!
Let me know what you guys think!
