Which One Do I Order? Bad Cats New P-51's

Post by MightyMustang » Wed May 25, 2005 7:47 pm

This blows me away guys and I mean it! Im so excited I feel like a kid at a candy store :D . Here I thought Bad Cat and BBI were only releasing ONE P-51 repaint and here I find on Bad Cats website not 1 but 2 REPAINTS!!! And not only that but they feature 2 P-51's from 2 of my favorite fighter groups the 352nd AND the 357th. First they do Major George Preddys P-51 which I think is only fitting because he was the top Mustang pilot in the ETO AND then they do Richard Petersons "Hurry Home Honey" which means alot to me because he lived in my home state of MN. Now I wonder which one do I order first? I should just order both because from the photos I saw they look very good and those are just the proto types. Will I get rid of "Killer"? Not a chance baby I'll find room for these Stangs thats for sure. Hats off to BBI AND Bad Cat for doing these repaints, its a dream come true for me. And I'm as excited as hell and cant wait for their release!!!

If you enjoy them both that much why not get both of them?

Come tomorrow morning I will. Minds made up. I was swinging more in favor of just getting "Hurry Home Honey" but I'll just get both.

Don't get either. Denial of material goods will make you spiritually stronger.

Aferg thats too damn funny! Whats spiritually stronger is me having two great Mustang re-paints :D sitting with "Killer" on my shelf.

Now it begs to question what will the paint scheme be on the new 21st release when that finally comes out? I could give 21st many ideas on that but they go about there own thing so I wont bother but hopefully it will be a good one like maybe "Old Crow" or "Glammourus Glenn" ect.

So many good Mustangs with shrinking space to put them. My P-47 is on its way and I have yet to order a Spitfire, which a must have. Like my father said "Son your starting an Air Force!". Now its 3 F4U's, soon to be 2 more Mustangs, one P-47 (coming soon), and a soon to be Spitfire. How do you guys with all you have collected do it? I NEED MORE ROOM!

I just pre-ordered 'Hurry Home Honey'. Can't wait to see how they look in person!

How do I do this aircraft collecting thing? It's tough! I have 29 aircraft hanging in this one room at the moment, 5 more aircraft out of a box sitting on the floor waiting to be hung, and 2 more aircraft boxed that I heven't even opened yet. I won't be hanging the Chopers (minus the Apachie and little bird that are hanging right now), so there's another 4 aircraft that are in here (2 Cobras and 2 Hueys). So about 40 aircraft right now!

Just orderd both of the new BBI Mustangs. Dont really need them but lack of 21st product has me chompin' at the bit for something new. I'm in the same boat as you P51. I have planes hanging everywhere and boxes stacked to the ceiling. Why oh Why did I start this hobby :D

Well just off the phone with a Bad Cat rep and Pre-Ordered BOTH Mustangs so now I'm happy and content. The rep told me that the Mustangs are going to be re-tooled as well with some small minor changes like the canopy and spinner being re-done BUT not to have no fear because they will be released in August and not delayed. He said the pics of them on the website are just the proto types and the released versions will be very good and very accurate. I also asked if they had heard if BBI had any future plans on further WW 2 Fighter releases and the rep said they havent heard a thing but Rob has been making suggestions. So thats that.

Anyway the Mustangs are ordered and my P-47 is on its way. The air build up continues!

Retooled?

Post by OnWu » Thu May 26, 2005 3:42 pm

The 21st Century Mustang planned for later this is completely new tooling.

However, I doubt seriously the BBI Mustangs Cripes and Honey are going to be manufactured using new or modified tooling. Any modifications to the spinner will most likely be the addition of paint only. Adjusting the tooling is very expensive, and the BBI bird is definitely "good enough" for most consumers to go to the expense and time to modify tooling that is already a proven winner. It's not perfect tooling but it definitely does the job unlike Laura Michelle/LouIV/BBD that many collectors found unacceptable.

Keep in mind they retooled the F/A-18 Hornet just for Bad Cat to do the Blue Angel set.

Retooled?

Isn't the Blue Angel Hornet the same as the F/A-18C with different paint and no loadout?

They retooled the wingtips and took away the sidewinder. They also removed the bracket that holds the main drop tank on the belly. And they filled in the slots where the racks to hold the wing weapons go.

From what I was told earlier today there will be some new tooling on the BBI Mustang. But if they dont thats fine by me because the BBI Mustang is just fine the way it is. I'm just glad to be getting two 8th AF Mustangs from two popular fighter groups. On top of all that they will be representing two famous Aces.

Apart from the spinner and canopy modifications mentioned above (which were very minor errors, IMHO) will they also fix the position of the wing hardpoints for the drop tank and bombs?

How about one it's most glaring defects: the lack of forward rake of the landing gear?

I'm really suprised by the fact that after all of the repaints in 1:72, 32x and 1:18, that we haven't seen anything from the 4th FG out of Debden. I like the 352nd, since I was at one time inquired in purchasing the control tower at Bodney, but to to continually concentrate on one FG is beyond me. However, doing Preddy's plane is some justice. If Meyers was done, I'd scream, hehehe.....

Both are very well welcome, nonetheless.

Hey tman the rep didnt say nothing about fixing anything else but I did give him some suggestions to pass along and he said he wrote them down. But the the question is did he really right them down? And if he did would BBI go the extra mile to re-tool a re-paint? I doubt it. Either way it dont matter to me.

Teamski I agree with you on doing a 4th FG Mustang and may be 21st will do their re-tooled Mustang in 4th FG markings who knows? Preddy's Mustang was an obvious choice because lets face it the man was awsome behind the stick of a Mustang as his kill record proves. The top scoring Mustang ace deserves this honor. I had the pleasure of meeting his cousin Joe Noah a few years back and he shared many memories and photos of George with me plus gave me the book and video about his cousin. I'm glad BBI is re-painting one of their Mustangs as "Cripes A Mighty 3rd" because as most historians know this was the Mustang George set a record and shot down 6 BF-109'S with it.

I'm also glad they are doing a 357th FG scheme because it was about time. These are going to be two classic repaints and hopefull more will follow eith from BBI or 21st.

I couldn't help myself. Although the last thing I need is one new plane, let alone two, I just ordered both new mustangs from BCA. I just couldn't decide which one I liked better, as my preference between them changed almost daily.

Oh well, what's a hundred burgers? And at least the boxes they come in are smaller than 21st's, so storage is a little easier, right? What a fix!

As a reminder, today's the last day to preorder at 44.95 and then the price is going to increase, probably to 49.95, so better hurry. Maybe if we buy up this exclusive we'll see more in the future.

Well done! :D You likely won't regret it. These are too cool to pass up and I'll definitely buy all the repaints they make as well.
