Found out about this at RCTANKHQ.COM. Hopefully they can make a go of it.

Sounds like they intend to use the electronics from a Pershing.

I will buy one if it comes out.

Hopefully, they will develope something original in the way of electronics, but that may be a huge stretch.

This would be my tipping point to buy into 1/16.

I rang the guy at Hooben last week. No,they won't be using Tamiya electronics but something VERY similar plus smoke function. I'll be talking with them again soon, hopefully the sample they promised is on the way!

That Russian torpedo boat looks nice too. I always liked RC boats. :) Plus it's 1:32. I might look into ordering just the kit for static display, it just depends on if they build it or not. But the thought of boating that thing around in all the creeks and ponds we have here sounds pretty nice too.

How much does this stuff usually run?

Three more 1/16 tanks from Hooben are being announced shortly.

Tankduel - did they say anything about sound, gun recoil or being a shooter like the Hen Longs? I just went to RCTANKHQ and they show that the other 3 tanks will be the Abrams, Maus and E-100. If so those last two would be monsters.

Any idea what this thing is going to cost...?? My impression is that it's going to be rather pricey.

That's good then. At least it will be of better quality and we won't have to cringe every time we take it out for a spin!

Hey guys, im the author of the RC Tank HQ article. I was told the tank will have ALL the functions of a tamiya including sound recoil and a battle system totally compatable with Tamiya. I'm not sure if what he told me about the exact nature of the electronics can be released yet, but I'll check. My understanding is that both R/C and a static/cheaper option will be available . I'm negotiating with them to make a good price available to RC Tank HQ readers, and of course you guys!. There will also be a special offer soon from another manufacturer launching a new vehicle but you'll have to wait until the time is right.
Anyway I'll be in regular touch with Hooben about all developments with them and I'll be reviewing (hopefully previewing) their tanks.
Your questions are welcome and I'll try and find the answers for you in due course so keep them coming, but I've spilled everything I can so far.

TankDuel - great to hear that you are a source of info for RCTANKHQ. This Hooben looks promising in that its offering something new. I like the looks of the metal internal suspension components.
1. Are the suspension arms metal too?
2. Are the gearbox's late model Tamiya's for testing purposes or will these be copied like Hen Long did with the older Tamiya gearbox's? I'd really like to see something original here.
3. Can you get some video of the turret rotation along with gun elevation and recoil? Gun elevation looks impossible if the boot around the mantle is inflexible.
4. Will batteries be bottom loaded like Hen Long?
5. Will Hooben or someone immediately offer metal track upgrades when this thing releases next month?

T-55 looks cool...hope it won't be difficult to buy...

Curious as to the obscure Maus and E-100 designs would be selected.

When is someone going to make a Centurion?

Heres some notes I took today, I forgot to ask about the suspension arms.

The T-55 will come as a kitset which will include
*Drive gearboxes,motors
*Turret Gearbox,motor
*Barrel elevation gearbox,motors
*Recoil gearbox,motors

The rubber cover at the base of the gun seen in the pics may possibly be replaced with a cloth version to improve flexibility.

The rest of the electronics will be available as a separate option, I'll have to work on finding out exactly what is included.
But I did establish it will have a smoke function and it will have a Tamiya socket IR System.

Even better news, this tank will be around half the price of a Tamiya, so around $300USD is my guess for now
Any more questions, please put them here and I'll ask Feng soon.

The last news I heard about this is that it's due around June. They're even talking about their next release which is gonna be either a merkava, or a Challenger II

Some CAD images of the Hooben Elephant www.rctankhq.com

Updates on the T-55 .. sorry I'm only putting them in the members section of RC Tank HQ forum, besides, there has been a lot of complaints about 1/16 not belonging here, so this is the last time I'll post about any 1/16th stuff.
