Custom painted 1:18 Aircraft TKO UPDATED 1/02 F-14 Vandy 1
Custom painted 1:18 Aircraft TKO UPDATED 1/02 F-14 Vandy 1
So I got REALLY bored this spring & summer waiting to buy new 1:18 scale airplanes. So bored in fact that I decided to conduct an experiment or rather a project. I thought it would be fun to take one of every kind of 1:18 scale plane and do a custom paint scheme, then share them on the forum.
I have several completed and several more in the works. I would like to schedule an update featuring a new plane every week for as long as I can do it or as long as my wallet holds out.
So this is my introduction, my next step is to figure out how to post photos up and take some pics. Here is where I am at in the overall project list. Right now I have a good head start!
1. P-40 (completed)
2. F-104C (completed)
3. Me-262A (completed)
4. P-51D (completed)
5. Zero (completed)
6. MiG-15 (completed)
7. Corsair (completed)
8. Stuka (completed)
9. Avenger (90% in progress)
10. F-86 Sabre (20% in progress)
11. Fw-190D-9 (90% in progress)
12. Bf-109G (75% in progress)
13. Spitfire (in the box still)
14. Me-262 two seater (in the box still)
15. P-47D bubbletop (in the box still)
16. P-47 Razorback (in the box still)
17. P-38 (in the box still)
18. Me-109 (need to buy plane)
20. Hellcat (need to buy plane)
21. F-16 (need to buy plane)
22. F-18 (need to buy plane)
What else am I forgetting? Let me know.

TKO,
Here is a link to the thread on posting pics:

Can't wait to see your handy work when you get finished.
Didn't you post a pic of your "airfield" all the planes in your driveway or was that someone else?

Thanks for the photo post info! I am going to try to get one up today.
Yeah, that was my driveway with all the 21C planes that had been built at that time. That was years ago and I think I now need a longer driveway. This mass custom project alone is pretty large! 22 planes... something like that? Am I missing any that you recall?
A-10, B-25, Dauntless, and so on yes. I know I am missing them. What about planes we have now?

Here are some quick pictures taken with my iphone. I might need to do a better job with a better camera in the future.
This used to be an AVG flying tigers P-40B from 21st Century Toys. I have forever wanted to have a Russian fighter in the collection and for now this might be one of the only ways to see it become a reality.
This was simply a "mask & rattle can" job with some airbrushed weathering. I also did not want to mess with decals so i used a vinyl plotter to create masks for the red markings to be painted directly on. Photos are a little hard to pick out but- the lettering just aft of the canopy is:
3A POHANY "for the people" as I am told it translates to. There are also 6 stars near the front windscreen to denote 6 victories. The stars on the tail need to be about 15 to 20% larger. I plan to correct this the next time I need to cut vinyl masks for the Avenger and FW-190D-9 this week.
This may not be 100% historic or might have other short comings that could be pointed out. Overall I am happy with this quick repaint and I am making these things for me so go gently. I know others on this forum have far greater talent in this arena than I.

Ok I couldn't wait to post up one more.
This is my BBI Japanese Zero custom painted into my favorite Zero scheme. I really liked this one when 21C covered it in the 1:32 scale line up. I have long thought this one should have been the next repaint from BBI. I did this one about a year ago actually.
It was a pretty easy one to do. Just started with the Bad Cat Aviation exclusive, some masking tape, airbrush, a quick vinyl cut mask to paint on the tail number and she was added to the imperial fleet. I like this one a lot.

Amazing work TKO, and I especially like the "Nishizawa" Zero That is also one of my favorite 32x Zero repaints from 21c.
Speaking of the ME-262, the Czech Air Force used captured German examples as well as a few "home grown" versions immediately following the war in that brief period before the country voted itself into the Soviet sphere of influence. There are plenty of pictures and a few museum examples. Essentially, the plane has a less-elaborate solid green-drab cammo scheme with the Cezch roundels on the wings and tail. This was one of the few postwar uses of the ME-262 as a frontline fighter

More pics please!! the more I look at the P40, the more I want one, the weathering is great! The Zero must look real good next to its siblings too:) I was thinking about doing a 262 in Japanese colors but the more I looked at the difference in design the more I shied away from it. Heres what the Ruskie will (hopefully) look like:
