All sellers should have to post a price if they want to sell on the Small Scale H.Q.

Naa, lets treat it like eBay and let it go to the highest bidder.

Buy Sell Trade rules poll

Post by toyktdlgh » Mon Sep 08, 2008 12:22 pm

Not wanting to stir the pot but I was wondering what other peoples views were on a few different buy sell trade topics. I have bought and sold items here before and on many different web sites. Most of these other sites have pretty stiff regulations on their BST areas. One of the most common issues that I have seen is the posting of “make best offer” ads. I’m curious as to whether you all like that option or think that at all sellers should post a price when selling an item here. I know a lot of the time when I see an ad like that I just look over it since I don’t really have a set price I can work from. If this poll turns out decently maybe I will post some more on different topics like this. Just so you all know this has absolutely nothing to do with any transactions or any person on this site. I just thought it was an interesting subject and was worth looking into.

I thought that posting it here in the BST forum was best since it directly pertains to this subject but if someone thinks it should be someplace else feel free to move it.

I say if you post an item for sale at a certain price you should sell it at that price. If you post an item for sale as "Best offer", more power to you if there's a bidding war over it. It's the American way.

well so far what we've all been doing has been working fine. So i don't see any reason to change things. Unlike ebay, i don't like change for the sake of change and am a strong believer of the 'if it ain't broke don't fix it' idiology.

So, i see no reason to ban 'best offer' type ads....though they rarely occur.

This isn’t a poll to see if we should ban anything. It’s just an opinion poll. For Fun :D

I said post a price because I have no idea what someone has in mind when they are selling something. Are they just looking to clear some room and will accept a reasonable bid covering what they payed for the item? Or will I look like a cheapskate because someone want to sell their prized quad trailer for BIG $$$$$?

Post a price and people can always make counter-offers.

Agreed though, BST has worked very well for me and has supplied a good portion of my collection.

Hmmm...

Perhaps I should have asked this sort of question before I did my first B/S/T on here. I had no real idea of how it was supposed to work, and all I saw as example were the sort of posts where one party said:

"I have 2 green bananas I need to get rid of if anyone wants them"

Followed by several posts that said:

"PM sent"

"I sent you a PM"

"I was going to PM you, but it looks like I'm too late"

I really didn't know how it was supposed to work. The items I had were things that I was able to pickup very cheap, and wanted to pass the good fortune I had on to others, but I wasn't sure how exactly. I mean, I wanted them to go to someone who really wanted them, and wasn't just buying them because they were cheap. Bidding seems to work well for that, but others don't like it. I didn't really relish the thought of asking, say, $10, and then getting an offer later for $20 and either having to tell the first person that I had a better offer, or lie to them and tell them they were not first, or telling the second person that I had already sold them, and that time zones and/or work schedules had kept them from responding fast enough. But asking $20 in the first place made it hard pass on the good fortune I had gotten in the first place...

In the end it worked out ok for me, with no real conflicts, but I was a little hesitant at first. Since then I seem to have done ok with posts where the seller has set a price, so maybe that's the best way to go. Of course, with Ebay going the way it is, there may be no place left where bidding can be done...

I've never had any trouble with how things work as they are.

When I've sold things I list a price and I sell at that price. When someone lists an item and asks for an offer I know that he will sell at the price that he wants to - I won't be upset if I get told it was sold to someone else :)

I can't B/S/T yet  but, I have been watching this forum and it seems to work well just the way it is.

The B/S/T works just fine for me. Would be sad if it were to change.

I have to agree with the original sentiment. If I see something that says "best offer" or doesn't list a price, I skip over it. It's not worth my time to bid on it.
