Need help posting a picture of a P-47 Conversion I did

Post by pokeyjtc » Fri May 13, 2005 4:31 pm

Hey everybody,
I did a new paint job for my P-47 Bubbletop. It is now the Big Ass Bird II. I'd love to post some pics, but I don't have a web page to do it on. Can anybody help me out? Maybe I can e-mail them the photos and they can put them on their server for me or tell me how I can post them. Any help would be greatly appreciated and I would really like you all to be able to see my new P-47.

You can sign up for a free webshots account at www.webshots.com. If you want to post pictures directly to your post on this forum, then the website www.imageshack.us is best for uploading pictures for free and putting them on your post. I think you can also create a pictures account using that server as well. Hope this all helps!

Wow! You really did an awesome job! Good, clean paint lines and it looks like a factory-fresh job by 21c. It would make a great repaint possibility, but due to the fact that the word "Ass" is used in the nose art, I can't see it being produced since it is technically a children's toy. Still thats a wonderful custom!

Very Nice! We don't see many AC customs. Cool. :D

Wow, that is an awesome custom and a great paint job and I think you picked a good scheme.

Great job!

Thanks for the compliments. I didn't even think about the use of the word 'Ass', but you are correct about it being inappropriate for kids. I did that particular plane because it was the first P-47 to destroy a German tank with the 5" HVAR rocket, plus I really liked the paint job. This is my first conversion on a 21C plane and I did it because I am tired of waiting for new aircraft and new repaints to come out.
One of my other hobbies is building 1/48 scale aircraft, so this wasn't too much different. I found a decal sheet for the plane I wanted in 1/48 scale by Aeromaster and then scanned it into my computer and then enlarged it and printed out the decals I needed on decal film paper. I only repainted the fuselage of the plane. The wings are as painted by 21C. I did mask off the national insignia and invasion stripes on the fuselage so that I wouldn't have to repaint them. I painted the body silver with Alclad polished aluminum and then used Testors spray olive drab for the anti-glare strip and Model Masters Guard red for the nose.
The parts that were decals are the tail stripes, aircraft serial number, the squadron codes, and the Big Ass Bird nose art. It was actually quite fun and I will probably do another. I want to do Tarheel Hal next, but I haven't been able to find the SuperScale decal sheet for it yet. Any suggestions on another paint scheme you all would like to see on a bubbletop or razorback P-47?

Tarheel Hal was my next guess! Though it may be difficult, there was a Revell-Monogram pre-painted kit of a P-47 Bubbletop from the 56th FG. The particular P-47 was actually flown by a friend of mine, Colonel Harold Comstock, as a demonstration aircraft during WWII. The nose art reads "Happy Warrior." I can't seem to find an online picture of the kit that is any larger than a postage stamp, however...
