The New Tiger

Post by Der Kommandant » Wed Sep 03, 2008 7:35 pm

Anyone going for the new 1/72 King Tiger set? I'm not into 1/72, but this particular tank caught my eye. From the research I did, it belonged to Panzer-Kompanie (Funklenk) 316. This unit planned to use remote control to fight with their Tigers. Also unique would be the fact that all their tanks were early production King Tigers, meaning they operated a significant portion of the 50 Porsche-turreted tanks produced. Just some information for you researchers-of-that-specific-tank like myself: the 02 Tiger formed the defence of Loire River, along with a few of it's stablemates. It was also the last survivor of it's unit, coming to grief upon hitting a tree and thereafter abandoned.

If this set comes out in Action Series, I'll repaint a couple to represent the whole unit.

That's awesome! Where'd you find it? I just found the first three FOV tanks here in Phoenix at TRU @ $10.49 each.

Actually, the 316 Funklenk (part of the Panzer Lehr) only received the first 5 of the Porsche King Tiger production. models. Most of the Tigers that the 316 operated were Tiger Is.

The 5 Funklenk King Tigers were largely unoperable, and most were lost without even firing a shot.

The rest of the Porsche King Tigers went to the 503rd, and the 506th also received a few.
