Hafthohlladung

Post by aferguson » Tue Aug 26, 2008 4:43 pm

i made a Hafthohlladung that sticks magnetically to my trumpeter t-34. How you ask? Well i'll tell you.

If you don't know what a Hafthohlladung click here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hafthohlladung
and here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rq5edjlhcaQ

I took one of my Dragon 1/18 Hafthohlladungs and put a little magnet in between the 3 prongs, such that it just barely protrudes. I got the magnet from a magnetic chess game piece.

Once i tested to make sure it would adhere firmly to a metal surface i glued the little magnet in place. But andrew, you're saying, how can this thing stick to a plastic tank model?

Well, the next step was to remove the hull top from my T-34 and to the inside of the upper hull sides i glued several flat pieces of tin in various locations. The magnetic attraction from the little magnet is strong enough to hold it firmly to the tank's hull, even through the plastic.

So now, my brave little 1/18 panzer grenadier can run up to my unsuspecting t-34, stick his Hafthohlladung to the hull and then run. And he'd better because 7.5 seconds later BOOM! I placed a small digital recorder inside the tank. When i put the Hafthohlladung onto the tank i also push a secret button which activates the tape recorder which has an explosion sound recorded on it with a 7.5 second delay. 7.5 seconds was the delay on the real Hafthohlladung's fuse, if you hadn't guessed that already.

The beauty is i can use my t-34 as a regular t-34 still. It is completely unmodified externally but now it's also magnetic. :)

you know.....pictures of my little gadgets aren't really going to do much for you anyway. You can't seem them in action shooting, or throwing, or being magnetically stuck or anything. Just sharing some of my brilliant ideas.

Next: an easy way to make a 1/18 panzerschreck fire it's little rocket across the room...

This is an easy one. Bottle rockets.
Kirk Douglas : Mine hit the ground first
John Wayne : Mine was taller

do you know how small a 1/18 panzerschreck rocket is? How could you possibly make it from a bottle rocket? Even a nebelwerfer sized rocket would be pretty hard.

Again no problem. Just get a bottle rocket and Dremal it down to size. But you may need to get a 50 foot fuse to light it.

Just to be safe.

bottle rockets are illegal in most states and throughout canada. What kind of a person do you think i am?

Anyway, my little panzerschreck works pretty good. Fires the little panzerschreck round (that came with one of the xd paratroopers) 12 feet, like a bullet. Tumbles a bit near the end of its flight though. Not sure if i can do anything about that. I can load it in the back of the panzerschreck, just like the real thing and fire it off. No springs, wires or fuss.
