Monogram 1/32 kits re-released

* I just learned from my local IPMS president ,.. which I had been out of the loop for awhile ,.. that Monogram has re-released some of their old model kits , such as the M8 Greyhound Armored Car and M4 Sherman for starters. I don't know about any of the rare German armored kits being re-released yet , he didn't say , but I think they will eventually , if they hadn't already done so.

* This is good news , as I want to get me an M8 Greyhound , considering I actually had one a couple a years ago that I only paid $5.00 bucks for @ a local IPMS show here , then turned around and sold the damn thing , along w/ a few rare German armor kits. ... Sheesh !

I still have most of mine from 25 years ago. A few unbuilt ones too. My favorite was the Strumpanzer followed by the M34 2 1/2 ton truck...

This is great news! I have a Sd Kfz 232 and it fits in well with my 21c and FOV. I'd really like to get an M-8 or M-20. Maybe even the jeep with the 37mm.

Anyone have any info on who, what, when and where this may happen?

I just bought a 232 off ebay for $9

b/c I thought the same thing as tyconut, that it would look great amongst my DAK 21c and FOV. I use pieces of monogram models that have been poorly taken care of over the years that I find on ebay in various customs. My forthcoming Panzer III N (which I just mated the drive sprockets and rear idlers from an FOV stug to the 21c lower hull!!!!) is going to use a monogram turret stowage box from a scrapped panzer IV model I acquired b/c the 21c ones are too small, and I can't bring myself to use any of my enthusiast FOV panzer IVs for spare parts.

It might be interesting to note that the Monogram models were 1:32 and 1:35 scale. The tanks and armored cars were 1:32 while the halftracks, weasel, truck and jeep/37mm gun were 1:35th scale. The only one I am not sure about is the M48(M60?) Patton. It seems closer in size to 1:35th for some reason...

The German Armored car was reissued at some later point in the early `90s and they were fairly common on Ebay for a while...

* The Monogram M48/M60 Patton tank kit you are referring to is definitely 1/32nd . I know cause I still have one of their original catalogues that I got w/ my 1/32nd scale PanzerKampfwagen IV (H) w/ Battle schürzen kit years ago as a kid. Still have the model too.

* Edit : I also remember how quite large the kit was for 1/32nd scale @ the time. It was a pretty big tank , as it is in real life and almost comparably so like the 1:18 one. Which I thought was quite big and out of scale leaning closer to 1/16th.

I beg to differ - the old Monogram M48A2 is 1/35th scale. I have owned several in my life and back before there were resin conversion parts I cross kitted one with a Tamiya M60A1 to get an original type M60. All the parts worked just fine together. 1/35th to 1/32nd is pretty noticeable for a modeler because the 10% size difference occurs in all three dimensions making a 1/32nd part a lot bulkier than its 1/35th counterpart.

Anyway - the potential re-release is GREAT news. I have gone through a number of these over the years. The Monograms in "true" 1/32nd were the M3 "Lee", M3 "Grant", M4 and M4A1 "Shermans", the M8 and M20 armored cars, the Pz IVH, the Wibelwind flakpanzer, the StuG IV, the Brumbar, the JagdPanzer IV, and the Sdkfz 232 armored car.

After they started they started their 1/32nd line Monogram re-labeled their 1960-62 military kits as "1/32" but they are close, or at, 1/35th.

After the M8 armorted car, maybe we can get them to re-run the JagdPanzer IV kits! Then if we could get Airfix back out of financial troubles and get the Multiposes figures back in production, along with the 17-pounder AT gun.

Not to throw cold water on this but that m20 armored car is a bear to build.I got one when they first came out and it ain't no Tamiya add glue and shake the box. Fit is really bad. The Shermans were tough too. I have the German A-car reissue but haven't tried it yet.

True, but with a little love they can be made into a decent model - but I have been building these Monograms since they came out in the 1970s! Plus, with the sheer dominance of 1/35th I don't think any new companies will cater to 1/32nd. Even the Tamiya effort in 1/48th is dwindling since the senior Mr. Tamiya retired. So these re-hashes of old, barely adequate kits is about what we can hope for.
