I have a few more ideas jumping around.

Post by AlloySkull » Sun Aug 17, 2008 12:52 pm

I know I'm not the best about keeping up to my ideas. I admit that. I do have bad habit of procrastinating and I have a bad short term memory. But over the past few days I've been thinking about the possibilities of creating either a 1:32 Ho-229, or a Me-109Z. The latter seems more plausible and not so complicated, except fabricating the middle wing section and the elevator.

I would need to "order" some 109Fs (I believe that's what was used on the original Zwilling) from someone who has them in abundance in their AO or has some extra loose.

If the Ho-229 were to be done, I would have to build the frame from the ground up, and I have no idea how to go about with that. I have a really nice, big 3-D cut-away view showing the skeleton of the 229 though, so I know how I'd shape it, it's just how would I skin it?

The Zwilling is the more obvious choice. Really there's only a few modifications that I can think of at the moment. Connect the wings with an entirely new wing section, create an elevator, take off the outside stabs/elevators, fill in the canopy and round it forward. I can't tell if the fuselage is longer, but if it is I'm not going to worry about it. It wouldn't be by much.

The paint app, I don't know what I'll do about that yet.

Right now I have $26. :( Looking for a job. :)

You should look at that custom Raiders of the Lost Ark flying wing on the thread down below (under the tank thread). That person cut the forms out and seemed to have made a pretty nice skin that covered all the surfaces. I would think the Horten would be constructed in a similar manner...

One good thing about the Horten is that it was coverd with plywood so panellines will not have to be done. It also used the same engine as the Me-262 and the main landing gear was the same used an the Me-109. And if you are not piticular you can use a thinned out canopy from a F-86. E-mail Aviator Nut he has a bunch of parts . Oh this would be for 1/18 scale . You probably have those parts in you parts box for 1/32.

Okay good, I was thinking of having to make the engines, and the gear was going to bug me, but I seem to have some positives on that. The front gear would need to be constructed then. I'll take a look at the Indy flying wing and see what ideas I can use.

That was what I was thinking. Now I have a budget of $36. I need to find styrene. I think I have some signs laying around... I'll go check, and get to work scaling my plans.

Scaled the plans, found some styrene, and got part of the frame of one wing started. :D So yes, I am making progress. I have pictures, but it's not much. If ya'll want them up, I'll start putting them up.

I'll say this now, it's not going to be pretty. This is my first attempt at scratch building...

But, I was suprised at how easy it really is to just score styrene and break it. The hardest thing about this is measuring and drawing the ribs...
