Whew! That was close :P

A german tanker figure would be nice, as we need all of them we can get. It also means we might eventually see one on the market, but I won't speculate along these lines any further as its probably just empty talk. Wasn't it at anothe Comiccon that 21c first had the modern figures?

21c website now down for me, too.

Hey everyone! I just got back into town from a little R&R. I expect to have details tomorrow or by Saturday at the latest for the "Big Announcement" What I do know is that is not like last years "exclusive." This should be more significant. Thanks everyone for being patient while I was away I will give a full detailed report on AREA-21 tomorrow or Sat. Just as soon as I know for sure what is up!

Sell him one of your "surprise" 1:18 scale aircraft

Anyways, thanks for the update and it sounds like there will be some great stuff. I hate to speculate, but it may be a safe bet expecting we'll see something of the new F-104, Avenger, and retooled P-51.

Where can I get more info about Comic Con?? It just may be worth the effort to go down and see it!

www.comic-con.org will point you to all the info you need on Comic Con.

T-man, for sure go if you can! I think this is going to be better than Toy Fair in my opinion. It would be cool to meet you and nice to put a face with a name. Perhaps we can start an AREA-21 dinner party plan to get as many of us together to talk war toys and just hang out! I'm already going obviously so I would love to have any fans who could make it join me out there!

Great......
So this means that those of us in the "nether-regions" too far from comicon will be cornholed by Evilbayers to obtain one of these so-called "one-of-a-kinds"...
And here I was expecting something more along the lines of a "club" plane...

Oh well, I am sure this will make some people VERY happy.... :?

i agree totally.......convention exclusives only pad the wallets of people who live locally and piss off long term fans who can't go/won't spend $1500 on transport and lodging to go.

Who says they won't offer them up?

I wouldn't be whining - this can only be seen as a good thing. Remember, the Checkered Corsair was a QVC "exclusive" and now many of us have them in our collection. The fact is there may be a very cool new scheme coming out, and hopefully all interested will find a way to get it 8) . Let's not worry about what someone else might get or do.....

Comic-Con sounds like an evilbay scalper's dream come true. Let's see, the week after comic-con I imagine we're going to see quite a few of the planes on ebay for outrageous prices. And you know what, people will pay them, without thinking twice.

As I'm in pittsburgh chances are both fat and slim that I'll make it to San Diego. Oh well, at least I'll see the planes on ebay.

Can anyone in the CA area tell me about Comic Con? I live up here in Washington State and am really interested in going this time. The wife is interested in seeing San Diego, and I might as well use my free mileage from Alaska Airlines. Can anyone suggest a nice hotel and what is the best time to go to the convention. I would be interested in getting together with others on this board for a meet down there. Any information anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks to all

JOC to SD

I've been to San Diego on vacation and had a great time. The weather is always great, the ocean keeps the temperatures down, and there is, of course, the famous San Diego Zoo which we thoroughly enjoyed. I'd give it two snaps up!

For my money, I enjoy either the Embassy Suites or Hampton Inn, both upper middle of the road places. Not too fancy but not too cheap either.

Check out Old Town

Post by Rogo » Wed May 11, 2005 10:50 am

If you are planning to visit San Diego for the convention, consider staying in Old Town. It has many Hotels/Motels, usually less expensive than downtown, there are historic sites, lots of good restaurants and a trolley station. The trolley has a stop directly in front of the Convention Center so no parking hassles and you may not even need a rental car. The trolley fare is about $2 each way. The trolley can also drop you at the Embarcadero water front where you can visit the Maritime museum ships (they just added a Russian submarine), and the carrier Midway, or other points.
Just type Old Town San Diego on your browser search to get more info.

I know exactly where Rogo is talking about! It is a cool area. Lots to do and a great place to hang out with lots of transportation / lodging options. If you guys planed in that area you wouldn't be let down! Great recommendation. :)

The Russian Sub was transferred down from Seattle. She just arrived a few weeks ago. She's not yet open for tours.

She's the same class (Foxtrot) as the sub in Long Beach. I've been aboard SCORPION (the sub in Long Beach). It was interesting.

I haven't been down that way since I saw them taking the Spruce Goose apart.
