Tamiya Military Miniatures 1:48 scale, anyone?
Tamiya Military Miniatures 1:48 scale, anyone?
can anyone tell me about this new line from Tamiya?
re they miniatures that you put together or model kits?
From what I see, these appear to be almost like the motorworks 21stC vehicles that need to be assembled but of course, much more detail
am I right?

looking at the tamiya finished models section, these appear to be the same ones, just unpainted and unassembled

These are unpainted model kits. I have a bunch of them and a couple of the Masterworks Tanks. The Masterworks stuff is nice, and you can sometimes find them reasonably priced.Cabe wrote:can anyone tell me about this new line from Tamiya?

They look to me just like Tamiya 1/35 masterwork range , witch means they come already madeCabe wrote:can anyone tell me about this new line from Tamiya?

I had been wondering about these for awhile
well ladies and gents, I think I have me a new hobby
er well and extension one I already have
if these are unpainted and easily assemble and I want to do repaints and mods....well I guess 1/48 isn't so small after all.
i wish they had em in 1:35

I've got most of the 1/35 Masterwork range & there better than Dragon but over priced
both are correct...
As is common lately for Tamiya both answers are correct. The 1/48th series is basically a line of plastic model kits (although, interestingly, they have diecast chassis). They are nice kits and fun to build. You can detail or upgrade them to true contest models. The line started rapidly but the releases have slowed after the retirement of Mr. Tamiya. The company also sells many of these as prebuilt, prefinished models for desktop collectors. I do mostly Allied armor so I can really comment much on the German stuff, but these 1/48th models are about as detailed as their 1/35th scale cousins. In many ways the US stuff is MORE accurate in the 1/48th line! Prices aren't bad compared to the bigger kits (eveything in going up lately). few of the 1/48th kits can be found at the Hobby Lobby chain and about every two weeks the "Weekly Coupon" at the Hobby Lobby web site is for "40% off any item at regular price" which makes the 1/48th stuff pretty darned reasonable.
