Just a question before I leave for work.
I'm looking for some animals for my own dio.
Does anyone know where I can get the best 1/18 scale cattle, horses, or hogs?
I'm not even sure just how tall a cow or a horse actually is to figure out the scale size.

(City boy.)
Thanks for any input, Kevin.

Chap Mei has a lots of choices in animals, so look at Big Lots or K-mart.
Also the Narnia and Golden Compass toys come with little rodents like mice and rabbits and bore.

animals are tricky because even the ones that are supposed to be to a certain scale often aren't.
Horses should be around a little over 3 inches to a maximum of 4 inches tall at the rump. Cattle about 3 inches tall at the rump. Pigs are quite variable in size and can get quite large so you have a lot of freedom with them.
Schleich animals are generally too small but you can find the odd useful piece. Dollar stores often have useful animas, but you'll probably want to repaint. Other than that you're kind of on your own to find whatever you can....it's very hit and miss.

I stopped at a WM the other day and found some 1/18-ish farm animals. There's a long horn steer, rooster, lamb, and a pig. Made by
www.bliptoys.com. The four-pack sells for $9.97. Also at
www.NW-HD.com. WM#065838291005
I also stopped at a Tractor Supply Co. (TSC) and found a big selection of Schleich animals. They seem to be the same scale. They even have the same animals, but in slightly different poses. In this next pic the WM animals are on the left and Schleich figures are on the right.
The scale of the Schleich Holstein cow looks good enough for me.
$5.49-Holstein cow.
$4.99-Texas Longhorn.
$3.49-Boar.
$3.49-Sheep.
Thanks for your replies.
Kevin.

I think we'll call him Dale. (If he doesn't have a name)

This is in act a Jimmy Houston Bass fisherman figure. Made by ertl for their great outdoor series. The series fell a little short, especally the later stuff. But I still kinda like it. Especially the cloth camo hunters.

I know that Michael's craft store has animals that some of them are close to 1/18th

That's where I got my German shepards from for my patrols
