After flying cover for some bombers over Bougainville LT.Thomas (SMITTY) Smiths Hellcat was hit by one of the many Japanese anti-aircraft guns around the runway!!! With no way to make it back to the USS Princeton LT. Smitty knew he would have to ditch his plane in the unfriendly waters of the Solomons island!!!!After sending out a mayday Lt.Smitty brought his plane down and prepaired himself for what he hoped wasnt going to be along night!!! [quote="kevrut"]Great story.

Not too many people here would sacrifice a plane for a dio.

Hey yall!!! Thanks---I had alot of fun with this dio but it was 1 of the hardest to do because everything that floats wanted to drift away!!!So when I got the raft in the right spot the plane would drift away and when I got the plane right the raft would drift away and so on!!!So next time out I will anchor everything down!!! But hey dont worry---the plane never did sink all the way!!! So everything that went into the drink was fished out!!! ---RED---
