Hanomag advice

Post by kduck » Fri Jun 13, 2008 5:27 am

So far I've concentrated on figures and don't have much in the way of vehicles in my collection. I'm planning on getting a glass display cabinet soon and I want to add a few vehicles. I'm not going to have the room for tanks and since Jeeps and Kubelwagens don't seem to be readily available I'm considering buying a Hanomag. I'd prefer a common troop carrier in a scheme used on the western front but from what I've found so far I like the look of this GrossDeutschland Eastern Front Hanomag:

Can someone tell me if this paint scheme was used on the Western Front by SS units? Also is it possible to remove the decals on 21C vehicles without ruining the paint job? What I'd like to do is remove the GD insignia and maybe add some SS markings.

Also does anyone know of a US online retailer that still has the Gate or Solido Willys Jeeps available at a decent price? So far I've only been able to find them from European sellers. They don't show up on eBay very often and when the Gate Jeep does show up it tends to be one of the ones with the cartoon characters and they usually go for a fairly high amount.

[+] > Although not my favorite , you won't be able to take off the insignias w/o ruining the job , so you will have to do a little re-painting or just simply re-paint the whole thing.

[+] > I believe you can get by w/ the existing paint scheme on the Western Front . It was still quite common for it's use in this campaign by the Waffen SS .

Thanks for the information. I'll have to see what I can do about matching the colors and painting over the decals.
