The Toys R Us problem

Post by nooker21 » Tue May 27, 2008 9:41 pm

When 21C announced TRU was going to bring back their planes, I was excited. No more having to buy planes from that wretched Wal Mart. However, except for the P-51B Mustang that I so happily picked up, TRU seems to have been stuck with repaints of older planes, and seemed shafted out of the new molds. Their shelves around here are just stuck with Evie P-47s and FW190s. They didn't even get a P-51D Mustang, and I'm still holding out for a decent European paint scheme on that one. Somehow I fear they're not going to get any Spitfires for some reason. Why is TRU getting shafted? Are they not selling as many as Wal Mart? Are they backed up on crummy stock right now and we have to wait for the aformentioned thunderbolts to clear out?

I'd love a repaint Corsair, even. Why not do the Bunker Hill scheme? They decals were available for the model kit already, and it would make a great rerelease....

I was suprised that even my TRU went through all the Evies so fast, I have seen the British Mustang stocked, but haven't picked it up yet. I really get tired of all these dumb factors we have to count in, I mean collecting isn't supposed to be a walk in the park, but for something that's mass-produced currently it should be accessible.

Yes, exactly. 21c would greatly boost their sales if only their items went everywhere. All the other toy companies manage to do it, so why not them?

This is most likely the reason why your TRU doesn't have anything new. They won't reorder new if they have old stuff collecting dust on the shelves.

My TRU went thru a similar dry spell, only to have the shelves finally clear so they could reorder. Now I am seeing the RAF P-51, more P-51B's and other new stuff arriving on a weekly basis.

Replace "on a weekly basis" with "every few months" and you'd perfectly describe the 21st section of my TRU.

I haven't been to my TRU in several weeks since I was checking it regularly, so if I get really bored, I might skate up there today. :D It will just be a recon, though.

Part of the problem is most come solid case packed instead of an assortment, ie all Jagdtigers or Green Tony's etc. Except for a few occassions when one case sells through they restock with another of the same item. My local TRU has 8 FW190D's and 8 Jagdtigers on the shelf. They will no other 1/32 planes or armor until these are sold. I don't know if 21C selects the packing or TRU.

Is TrU carrying the German items again, swastikas and all?

Yep.. Woohoo!!!

Well, it depends on the Swastiksa.. I don't think any 21st German product has had the swastikas for a very long time.
