Israeli D9 bulldozers

Post by aferguson » Fri May 23, 2008 3:13 pm

came across a good site with pics and info on the fearsome D9 Caterpillar used by the IDF in urban warfare. The D9 has been much criticized as a 'barbaric' weapon that buries people alive without warning but this is far from the truth. Residents are always given prior notice before the dozers arrive and demolishing takes a half hour or more....plenty of time for anyone to evacuate. This has been confirmed by many independant observers and is not just Israeli propaganda.

D9's are invaluable in urban warfare against terrorists and have been credited with single handedly winning several battles and sharply reducing IDF casualties.

The Israeli nickname for it is Doobi (teddy bear...heh). Nearly impervious to blasts from up to 1000 pounds of explosive, rpg rounds and sniper fire.

Seems to me the only way to make it better would be to add a couple of flame throwers. I'm sure that would go over real well...

IIRC one version of the Rome Plow was based on the Cat D9.

Cool site.
CATs are built here in E. Peoria IL.
I"ve toured the plant a few times.
The D-11's are huge. They can't sneak up on you, you can feel the ground shake when they're moving.

Very impressive and scary looking. Seems funny to see a cupola on a bulldozer.
