IIRC these were slated for a June release, at least that was what I remember seeing at the Flying Mule site a while back. However, FOV has been pushing back release dates on many of their new 1/32 line, so don't be surprised if the same applies to the 1/72 items. These are very nice though, and will be a welcome addition for people who collect this scale. 8)

My wallet doesn't mind me waiting an extra few months for a gigantic Elefant and a mini Panzer IV :)

Release Dates

Post by lightning2000 » Mon May 19, 2008 1:08 pm

Hi,
We're currently looking at a mid-summer release for the Panzer IV Ausf. J and Hanomag with Pak 40. No release inormation has been provided as yet for the 2nd issue T-34/85. My guess is they still have inventory on the first version and dont want to bring in the new pattern until stock of the first one has been exhausted.

Figures

Post by lightning2000 » Mon May 19, 2008 1:49 pm

Hi,
Judging by the pix supplied by the manufacturer, it appears as if the Pz. IV J and T-34/85 will come with a tank commander. Looks like the Hanomag and Pak40 will be part of their Battle Extreme series and will therefore come with several figures. How many? Dunno just yet, although I'm guessing eight from the small image supplied to date.

Probably will come with the same old infantry they did previously, I doubt any crew for the gun.

Figs

Post by lightning2000 » Mon May 19, 2008 2:16 pm

Hi,
I would tend to agree. The four German figs in the image look more like grenadiers than true crewmen for the Pak 40.

So the Elefant is going to be around $60? Only Enthusiast, or Action as well? I'm also wondering if it will be in stores. I can skate to Target, so I have no worries on gas, nor shipping on such a heavy piece. I hope it's in the store... Oh, and when? :D

Sorry for my actually straightforward questions. I've been up for 48 hours.

The Motor Pool is a retailer. That is how lightning gets advance word on this stuff.

Retail Details

Post by lightning2000 » Thu May 22, 2008 7:10 am

Hi,
Itcbj is correct. The manufacturer, in this case, will submit their most current price list to their retail network, which oftentimes lists the anticipated ship dates of new items. These price lists get revised several times during the year, as current items are retired (sold out) and further information becomes available for new items.

The problem is that nothing is written in stone when it comes to release dates. So, even though a company might initially indicate an item is expected in February, it no longer comes as a surprise when in fact it finally shows up in August.

On the plus side, most collectors are willing to wait the extra time since they know they're getting a quality product from a quality manufacturer. Look at how much people are willing to pay for a 1:32 scale Pershing if you have any doubts...

Lightning, has FOV ever met a release date? IIRC they have been pushing their dates back ever since their second year of releases. :?

AS, I don't think you will ever see the Elephant at Target. This will definitely be an etailer only item. Now the duece and a half will probably be a different story.

Release Dates

Post by lightning2000 » Thu May 22, 2008 11:22 am

Hello,
These days, I dont think any manufacturer is hitting their projected release dates. Keep in mind, some things are impossible to forecast. For instance, I've read reports where after the Chinese New Year, upwards of 30% of the employees failed to return to work. Moreover, if a single part or packaging isnt ready in time for final assembly, that can slow the release of an item too.

Frankly, there's all sorts of reasons why collectibles manufacturers, catering to a small worldwide market, are having a tough time getting product to market. I couldnt really answer if you'll find the Deuce or the Elefant at some of the big box retailers, since thats not something we can address.

The truly interesting situation that could develop for the balance of 2008 is too much cash chasing after too few goods. If the economy rebounds, like some pundits are claiming, and manufacturers are still working off of a smaller than normal production run, then you could conceivably run into a situation where people that did not pre-order an item might be left high and dry trying to place an order after the item has already been shipped to retailers. I saw this happen in '83 and again in 2001 where there just wasnt enough product to go around for everyone. Of course with the price of oil hitting new highs every day, I'm not sure that's going to happen this time around...

Confidence is High

Post by lightning2000 » Fri May 23, 2008 5:23 am

Hi,
Boy, that's a loaded question. Let's just turn that around and give it a positive spin. After speaking to the powers that be yesterday, I remain confident that their new introductions will indeed be out this summer, as presently projected - and with great fanfare. Sometimes, its like waiting until Xmas Day to open your presents beneath the tree. It gives the product added value and appeal. If they were released ad hoc, you might not have the same appreciation for them down the road...
