Military Channel Tank Special

Post by Philip » Wed Apr 06, 2005 7:33 pm

The Military Channel has a special this Friday, April 8 at 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. EST entitled Top Ten Tanks. Just thought everyone would want to know. I think it's about the best 10 tanks ever. Happy viewing! Might be fun to discuss it afterward.

Sweet. The Military Channel has some truly fantastic programming. I'm setting the DVR right now.

You may already have it, it used to be known as "Discovery Wings" Channel.

FYI - if you're a Time Warner customer, you can call up and threaten to switch to the Dish or some other satellite provider...they'll cut your rate in half for a year just to keep you on as a subscriber.

For instance, here in Houston it costs roughly $140/month for Digital Cable/DVR/HBO/Roadrunner service. They slashed the bill to $70/month, just for threatening to cancel. There's some sort of mgt directive that authorizes them to do this. Caveat...you must sound convincing. If they think you're bluffing...they won't do it.

A good business move on their part, IMO. It costs a heck of a lot less for them to cut the rate than to lose a customer...b/c once you switch...you likely won't consider returning for years.

Here's my Top 10 (Just for grins, I'll use their rating system along with the caveat that the tanks must have been blooded in battle, and there must have been over 500 produced):

1) M1 Abrams
2) Tiger
3) T-34
4) Panther
5) Challenger/Challenger 2
6) Sherman Firefly
7) Centurion
8 ) Merkava
9) Mk 1
10) Pzkw IV

Best Tanks

Post by Philip » Wed Apr 20, 2005 12:28 pm

My list definitely would have considered the Panther, esp. since several books on WWII armour called it possibly the best tank of WWII. The Military Channel, which is part of the Discovery Channel, has the 10 listed and a short explanation of why these were the top 10.

Now, if I were a military toy company that was just starting out (no matter the scale) those 10 tanks are what I would produce, at least initially!

Top Ten Tanks of All Time

Post by lightning2000 » Wed Apr 20, 2005 1:53 pm

Hi,
Here's the top ten list as I see it:

1) US M1A2 Abrams
2) German Panther Ausf. G Medium Tank
3) Russian T-34 Medium Tank
4) German Tiger I
5) British Challenger 2
6) US M4A3 Sherman
7) US M60 A3
8 ) Israeli Merkava
9) German Pzkw IV
10) German Leopard 2A6 MBT

Granted the Leopard series hasnt seen action yet, but from what I read it may be even better than our Abrams, even though its produced in far fewer numbers. If you want a tank that has seen action that can replace the Leopard, then I'd go with the Panzer III or US M26 Pershing.
