New Indiana Jones figure review. The German soldier

Post by General Blasto » Thu Apr 24, 2008 5:12 am

Yesterday, I received a Indiana Jones figure I got on Evil bay.
I got to admit, that for a german soldier, I wasn't too impressed :( He looks more like a Russian conscript from the Bolsavic revolution. About the only thing German looking is his MP-40.

Image

I think that if someone wanted to make him more "Germany" looking, you would have to replace his cap with one from a DAK soldier. I forgot to shoot the back side of him, but the canteen, bread box, etc. is NOT standard German issue :( I will shoot one of him from the back side later to show this. Here is a size comparison to 21st C.

Image

I think for myself, being I pre-ordered so many, I'll be making most(if not all) of my Indiana Germans(except Vogal) into Russian soldiers ;) :) Da General.

***Update*** Backside pictures ***

Here is a backside view of the new Indiana figure.

Note the absence of the standard German gear :?
And look at the height differrence too
Makes you wonder who's 3 3/4" figure is correct

End of report...

Thanks for the pics General. I think I will pass on the figures, maybe just get the truck and motorcycle. At least they got the MP-40 correct.

too bad about the webbing, otherwise he'd make a great russian. You can cover the webbing straps with a custom made blanket wrapped around his shoulder, like many russians carried.

As far as size goes, he's probably closer to 1/18 than the 21c figures, which are generally too large.

Thanks for the pics Blasto. That's a great idea with the blanket Aferg. These guys could make some convincing Russians.

AMEN! I'm just happy to see something new in 1:18 that is of good quality and can fill my unwanted absence of 1:18 purchases this year! The Indiana Jones figures sure look a whole lot better than the competition's figures and vehicle offerings....oh wait....there arent any..

Variety is the spice of life... Adding some German gear to him won't be hard. I've got plenty of helmets lying around, and plenty of extra stuff. It'll be an easy fix making these guys mix in I think.

Man, that is so wrong! Why would they have them out if they're not for sale!!?? I would've gotten the manager if I were you. That's just wrong. No other way to say it.

This exact same thing happened to be with a 1/48 P-40. WM is TERRIBLE about shipping items without fully registering them in their central item database where the pricing comes from! Everyone working there are zombies and cant think for themselves without the computer telling them what to do. I was even told that the item was defective and had a recall on the plane!! Idiots-sheep! But in the end I walked away with it.

Hey Fritzkrieg, Was it tied to the May 1st date? or did they even bother to explain why they wouldnt sell them?

Same thing with the P-51Bs/Bf-109Ks. Even a week later they still weren't registered, but that time someone with the right authority was able to enter them into the system...

To get back on track, I agree with the sentiments regarding the accuracy of the German soldier. It just doesn't look German and the 21c and FOV examples are better. I am planning on certainly getting the truck and motorcycles, and I will use 21c or FOV Germans with the truck. That said, however, the Hasbro German is itself a good looking figure and can certainly find potential use as a soldier from some other nationality.

I hope 21c gets themselves into gear - their biggest rival is making Germans, even if inaccurately, and they will probably sell better

same thing happened to me last night - two different WM's all the Indy stuff was out - had the truck in my hand scanner showed it at $19.97 and the figures were 6 something - also all the Hulk figures, and Batman figures out - they price scan but you cant check them out - the lady told me they had been recalled - she could force it but the alarm would also go off - i told her I could run - she laughed. Nervously.

The Indy figures - really suck - I mean they look ok but I expected better - all the guns and items were warped on all the cards - i mean twisted in bows warped. The Russian's looked ok and the DAK figures? Ill get a few for drivers I guess - Ill probably never see the truck again!

They're in the Wal-Mart computer, that's not the problem.

They're not sellable items because they have a corporate mandated "street date" of release. It's generally accepted to be May 1st as that's what Target's computer system and cases are listed as... It's more the computer system the store uses than that they're "not in" said system.

The computers are not allowing sales because the manufacturer is imposing that date, which is at the request of Lucasfilm. The same happens for other toy lines (Star Wars media tie-ins, Spider Man, Speed Racer, etc., etc.), so it's really the store's bad for putting them out when they probably were clearly marked on their cases "Don't put this out till _____", and some stocker didn't read the warning.

Stores can actually get in trouble for putting stuff like that out early... Hard street dates are actually "serious" things... Other things have set dates because there isn't a spot in the plan-o-gram for them yet. This happens at Target all the time because they're very strict on how their store's shelves and endcaps rotate and get stocked.

Thanks for the shots General. I agree that these are not the best looking Germans but will still buy some. Why? Because they are new 1/18! 8)

If anyone has a K-Mart near them -
K-mart dosnt seem to mind selling them before the may 1st Roll Out date.
Figures about $2.00 bucks higher at 8 something why I didnt get any - but i did pick up the truck for $24.99 - not too bad. I'm at work and I'm not even sure if i want to take it o9ut of the box yet.

Some being sold online are from overseas, some are from stores that leaked them early. We reported on Jedi Defender a whole slew of figures someone bought at a Target near them. It's all boiling down to how competent the staff is. ;)

KM's never very good on street dates... I got Star Wars figures early there for the last two films released. I promptly took photos and returned them due to the higher price.

Blasto, Col. Vogel isn't out yet... He's in a later wave, I believe after the new film's figures are out. The Raiders wave was sort of a pre-cursor to the new Indy IV film's line rolling out and promoting the new flick. The "Last Crusade" wave is due after that, as well as a Temple of Doom wave that we've only seen one figure from but have heard rumors on what else is coming in it.

General, How do the Hasbro Germans fit in 21C halftracks? Curious to know if they can SIT in the seats and if they can SIT in the back? I've always been frustrated that 21C figures have a tough time sitting in 21C armor!!
Will also be curious to know if 21C figures will fit in the Hasbro vehicles. I'm pretty sure the Hasbro figures will have no problem 'fitting in' Hasbro vehicles.

I hear you Holensock :o
I could only jam one of the S1 Kubel drivers into the halftrack.
I personally haven't tried it, but hold on .......

Yeah, he fits and better- easier than the Kubel driver was to get in :)
As far as how they sit, it's still a hard positioning with knees and legs at wierd angles :( I think that seating area was designed for 1/32 figures with tiny short legs.

My question now is how hard will it be to get a 21st or FOV figure into that transport truck Hasbro is making  But we will soon find out because I did a BIN on Evil bay late last night for one of those trucks. Paid too much for it, but it was from somewhere down here and it should get here soon, plus I will have the satisfaction of having one of the first ones. This way I can do a review for y'all 8) Then I'll repaint it and decal it. Oh BTW, where can I find those German chevron crosses for the doors :?: I'm going to need a bunch.

Also I got a couple of the German soldier 2 paks coming and I can review them for the group as well  Now I just need to find that command/staff car. The quest never ends  :P Da General

When I filmed the Mr. T stuff with the older Kenner Indy truck, I had to take the lower legs off the DAK figure to make him fit into the truck.

Thanks for the info General!
I feel bad for you having to pay those higher prices for this stuff on Ebay!
DON'T bid on the command/staff car if you see one on Ebay! I'll try to find one for you here! ...AND for what I pay for it!
I hope others here will also help you out! You're a very good member here and I hate seeing you have to pay MORE for stuff that maybe we can help you out with!
Can't wait now to see how those Hasbro figures will fit in Hasbro vehicles along with 21C figures.
