Dogfight display

Post by nstrong » Mon Apr 07, 2008 6:04 am

Well, my order came in over the weekend from Small Joes, so I put together a little display idea. I'm putting it in my office at work and since hanging from the ceiling is out, I had to come up with something different.

Must be the camera angle/lense...but those are the 32nd dogfight set. And yes, I have hairy feet, but no- I'm not a hobbit

Yep, I can see the table in front of the chair now that I look real close. I remember back in the day (50 years ago unfortunately) when I was around 10 or so and did lots of models, a lot of the planes came with a stand to display them on. May still for all I know.

Nice Display! How did you attach the metal wire to the undersides of the airplanes? 8)

Great idea nstrong! I think I have just found a way to eliminate some of my space dilemma. Depending on how this was done you could stagger aircraft up seven or eight high with only a few square feet of footprint!

Perhaps much like kids we collectors get dumber as we get older! :P

Thanks all.

I'll take more pics when I can, but all I did was bend the wire in a loop at the top, put some clear tubing around it and then angle the loop to suit the plane - the Zero is on a slight slant as if peeling away from the Corsair. The planes then basically rest on the loop - but for extra support the loop wraps around the the bottom tank on the Zero, and the for the Corsair - it's around the 2 bombs.

The wire is 9 gauge - bends pretty easily, but strong enough to hold the planes. Tubing found in the plumbing section. Bases are just 4X4's cut to size and stained.
