Too bad on my IL-2 and Yak-3 votes. Deep down I knew it was a Spit.

Finally! GOD! I'm trying to save up for a road trip and with all these planes and tanks it's killing me...

I wanted a later 5-blade prop Spitfire as well, but any Spit is good in my book.

I'm hoping for a Typhoon... those are mean machines!

unusual paint scheme for a mk I/II spitfire...in fact no mk i's were flown in those colours and i suspect the only mk II's that were would have had wing cannon, which this one doesnt seem to have.

Still, i'm sure the tiny toy people will be pleased.

Thanks, Digger. The released Spitfire is the Mk IIa from the 71th RAF Squadron (August/September 1941) http://www.btinternet.com/~lee_mail/71.html. The Spitfire on the box picture (with "NK" code) is the 118 Sq Mk IIa (1941, too). So, both of them are not the Battle of Britain planes. This is probably a great model. It looks very good. Well, it has no antenna mast but this is easy to do at home. I'm not sure the color of the under surfaces is the right "medium sea grey"; it seems to be a little too dark. The exhaust pipes should be rather rusty than silver. Still I am happy to see the first XW Spitfire and waiting for more!

Andrew, you are right, the scheme is really unusual. Probably all Mk I and most Mk IIA's had the older dark earth/dark green camo. But it changed in August 1941 so it is possible that this example had the new paint scheme. If it is really the Mk IIA (and neither the Mk IIB nor the Mk VB) - it should really have 8 machine guns and no cannons. I hope 21CT had the fine camo specification

seems it is a mk IIa in grey/green scheme (i forgot the name of that scheme.....was it 'continental'?).

Anyway, i guess they were just going for some colour variety on the same airframe and wanted authenticity too.....and figured most people wouldnt' know the diff anyway, as it's rather a subtle point.

'Bout time there was a spit in this scale.....time for an update spitfire in 1/18 i say.

The dark green / ocean grey was a "day fighter scheme" still the earlier dark green / dark earth was a "moderate land scheme".
