Custom Scimitar CVR(T)......( Links Work NOW)

Post by steelbonnet » Fri Apr 01, 2005 5:53 am

Hi All,

Well l made this to give my Modern Brits some Armour.

I used a Joe Wolverine as hull base. Then everything else is custom by me.
The turret is Plasticard & yes cut to those angled shapes to fit & give plenty of room for the turret crew & also working 30mm Rarden cannon (- & + elevation). All hatches work (turret up-down & driver swings out).

I opted for the british Green/Black camo as l have more custom temp DPM figures than Arrid. Though l will be making more CVR(T) family members once l get More Wolverines.

Oh l chose the wolverine due to it having the correct downscaled width. Alas it wasn`t long enough though if l`d actually gave it the 5th Bogie wheel it would have been. I did not so l can use the wolverine for future CVR(T) projects.

Before l show my custom one though, here`s a photo of a real Scimitar for comparrison........

Now here`s for the 1/18th Custom Scimitar,First some WIP shots...........

I am still working on the crew, though as you can see from a couple of the photos two are already in DPM uniform. I also am making removable helmets & berets for these guys as well as removable webbing & of course custom SA80s too.

Well l hope you enjoy these photos of something a little different,as l truely enjoyed this project & l`ve just recieved my 2nd wolverine in the post,so another CVR(T) family member (Saber,Scimitar,Scorpion are turret versions.Samson,Spartan,Striker are High Hull versions & the Samaritian is an Ambulance) will be coming soon.

Thank`s for looking & hopefully any comments recieved.

Excellent work! I can only hope that a company, such as BBI, will eventually field at least one or two modern British pieces of armor in the future. Quite necessary for any modern armor line - no matter the scale!

Steel Bonnet? Are you the same SB that was on GP's board long ago and then vanished without a trace? Or are you a new SB?

Excellent work SB. Nice to see modern armor other than US once and a while.

So this a new version of GP`s site?? As eitherway it`s nicely layed out & very familiar in the GP approach :D

I really like your subject and excellent
customizing work! I also like the Land
Rover mod you did. You must be pretty
proud to have a scimitar in 1/8 scale-
custom built. I wouldn't mind it either!

It would be nice to see 21st or BBI make
the Scimitar or ChallengerII or the Warrior.

I'm curious, what did you for the base of your scimitar?

Hi HD,

Thank`s for the very kind words on both Scimitar & landie.

I too hope to see a 1/18th Challenger come out as l have one planned for the future to make if it doesn`t (Converting a BBI M1).

For my 1/18th Scimitar mate, the base is a GI JOE Wolverine.
I took off the Missile unit. Knocked out the Engine section for the driver`s new seating area. Widened it inside a little more for a figure to fit in easier.

Then l used Plasticard & thick cardboard to make the new hull inc swing out drivers hatch. As you see the figure fits very well.

The Storage bins on the side of the hull are plastic & Thick card.
The turret is Plasticard also with the Top part being thick cardboard.
Both turret lids are plasticard & the brackets to make the be working lids are custom made.

The perisopes were pieces of plastic l cut to shape apart from the Drivers as it was the biggest l actually cut into it to make it look correct.
Again storage bins were made from plasticard & plastic. The Gun mantle is actually off Chap mei with the housing made from a Plastic Shampoo bottle to get the right shape (loo at WIP & you can see it`s clear plastic).
The barrel is a plastic rod with the cover being from a plastic candy stick.

Hope that helps this little run down on the Scimitar.

If you decide to do a second one, you should make templates for the various parts.

I'd buy a set of plans.

Thank`s for the kind words guys & also great to see other`s who would like modern brits too :D

I`m hoping to get a few more wolverines in the near future (aiming at around 4-6 in total). Then l can do:- 2xScimitars,2xSpartan(APC),Striker(Missile firing),Samaritan(ambulance).

When l do get round to doing another Scimitar l will indeed do plans of the turret & will even get them scanned so all can have a copy who would like one. Though please be patient on that. As doing anothe Scimitar will be the LAST version I do.

Again thank`s for the kind words on both the Scimitar & Landie.

SB..... Outstanding work! It is quite refreshing to see something so unique. Whats even better is to see custom work of this caliber by a fellow board member! There is a lot of talent 'round here!

Once again, nice work- keep 'em coming!!!!

USCGSARdog,
Thank`s very much for the kind words mate.

As said l plan on doing more from the CVR(T) family (actually taken a break from the Spartan one l`m currently doing).
Though l do also have a Warrior IFV & a Challenger 2 planned for later in the year.

The way round the Chall 2 is:- PTE M1 will stay as is,so my US forces have armour :D Then l`m going to convert the BBI M1 to a Chall2 (as it is bigger than the PTE verson, which the Chall 2 is to the M1).

Again thank`s & l hope you like the others as they come along too :D
