21st Century 1/18 or 1/32 Sherman, TigerI?

Post by dragon53 » Sun Feb 03, 2008 6:56 pm

For veteran 21st Century collectors:

With 21st Century's new 1/18 Panther repaint and lots of all-new 1/32 German vehicles, what are the chances of all-new or repaints of 1/18 or 1/32 Sherman and Tiger I?

I don't expect to see another 1/18 Tiger I anytime soon. It's a very expensive tank to produce. Shermans..... well, that's another story.

TEAMSKI:

If 21st comes out with a new Sherman, based on their past history, do you think it will it be a repaint (1/18 or 1/32) or an entirely new mold?

I know I'm not Teamski, but it would probably be a repaint. 21c could, however, adopt their existing Sherman hull (with a few small modifications) to a new turret to make a Sherman Firefly. That would be a technically new piece of armor without too much cost/design input

I have a good feeling we will get a north Africa Sherman to go with the whole DAK throw on some British markings or even US - and that would be the one Sherman repaint I would buy.

Thanks for the replies.

I asked the question because I'm weary of looking for the FOV 1/18 Sherman with a good price of $18 but has less detail and no crewman compared to the competitors' Shermans.

I'd skip the FOV Sherman and wait for a more expensive Sherman with a 75mm from 21st Century if it looks as good as their new 1/32 and 1/18 armor.

Considering this message board is proof there's a demand for another 1/18 Sherman (many posters frequently at Target looking for FOV's Sherman)), I would think there would be a greater demand for a 1/18 Sherman with more detail, weathering and a crewman.

I hope the Sherman on 21st Century's website banner isn't there for nothing.

I honestly think we have a decent shot at getting a 1:18 Sherman Firefly to go along with the upcoming 21st Brit troops.

(Nothing wrong with positive thinking, is there? :D )

Anyone think we will see a 1/18 Lee or Grant?

I think we will get a Priest before a Lee and Grant

I agree w/ Tman, a Sherman Firefly would be an awesome addition w/o too much cost.

I think we might get a Sherman Firefly right after the Jagdpanther.

The Firefly could be a possible mod, I would like to see a M4A1 cast hulled Sherman done. The only change would be a new upper hull and all the current part and detail from the M4 would fit the M4A1.

I dunno, but I think there's too many Shermans.
I think there needs to be a later US/Allied tank to match up to the Panthers and Tigers. An M24 would be a good choice, the M26 came in right toward the end of the war. M7s can be built out of Shermans. But if this is all we have and if it was the way it was back then in WWII, then we'd all be speaking German  My vote is for the M24. As for smaller Allied armour, I'd like to see an M8 Greyhound, they were pretty cool, and fast too :P Da General

The M24 was never a match for any German tank, seeing it's more of a recon vehicle than an actual tank. The M36 Jackson, however...

The problem is that all manufacturers makes the same type of Sherman, or near to it. There are a TON of Sherman versions that they could choose from. There are several Shermans that have posed a serious threat to German tanks, like the 76mm version(s), Firefly, etc.

But for some reason, a lot of toy/model companies have a hard-on for the 75mm Shermie. I've always wondered about that.

GENREAL BLASTO:

Yes there are a lot of Shermans out there, but they're not what I'm looking for.
I don't want a Firefly, a US Sherman with a 105mm or long-barrel 76mm, no hedgerow clippers, no mine flailing chains, etc.

All I want is an 1/18 Sherman with a 75mm, weathering and maybe a crewman. The closest to that is the 21st Sherman---which is discontinued. The FOV is next, but it's not great in detail, little weathering or crewman.

That's why I hope 21st comes through with an all-new 1/18 or a 1/18 repaint.

I personally would love to see a Firefly with a couple British Troops. Better yet, give us a Cromwell to go with the Firefly and really see them sell.......

After visiting Villers Bocage years ago, my interest in British armor piqued....
