FOV Sherman has pros and cons compared to the other brands.
The biggest let down is that the lower hatches - driver and radio/MGer will not open
I do like the textured look of the turret, so that's a plus. They also have the stowage bin in the back for say camo netting and that's nice. The turret also has an opening second hatch on top like BBI's Sherman, that's another plus. But the grills over the engine do not open and worse are not see thru like 21st C, let's a let down
The tools are also molded, another boo-boo. I guess it's 50-50. But it is a new and different pait job and that's always a plus
So, let's stack them up to see the best to worse(in my view). Overall detail is good.
BBI's Sherman rates a 9 of 10.
FOV's Sherman rates a 6 of 10
21C's Sherman rates a 6 of 10 (plastic shell)
Motorwork's Sherman 5 of 10 (metal shell) - lower than 21st's because it's tougher to cut metal over plastic when kitbashing.

GENERAL BLASTO:
Thanks for the ratings. I don't own any of the Shermans and I'm still looking for the FOV Sherman.
Based strictly on the photos, I would rate the BBI--9, the 21st Century--8 and the FOV--5 (much less detail, little or no weathering, no crewman, no stowage).
I guess the Shermans prove you get what you pay for.
I hope 21st Century soon comes out with a new 1/18 or 1/32 Sherman and Tiger I. But with my luck...

Good point Dragon,
I forgot to take crew included into the rating, but still. I was doing an overall rating of the tank itself. As for the crew, they are ALL at or below failing grade as far as crew go. Why you ask ??? Well BBI and 21C only give you ONE crew member
Last I heard, it takes at least 4 guys to operate a tank. Guess it forces you to buy more product
In the past I've just bought a bunch of figures for crew personel for the tanks. Actually, the only tanker that is great is the BBI figure and that is because you can take his leather helmet off and change out the head to a different one. I haven't gotten around to attempt to cut and bore out a 21C head with helmet to have just the "Helmet only" . I Guess I worried that I'd shread my fingers in case I slipped with the dremel tool
But that's what FOV should make on their next run of figures, Tank crew members with removable helmets for the US and removable hats/caps for the Huns. I'd buy a whole bunch
I've collected 4 FOV Shermies and 6 Tiger Is so far and will buy more different FOV WWII tanks and vehicles if offered in the future
Another 2 cents worth from Da General

Ok Razor, I stand corrected
I guess that I didn't get one of those Shermies NIB. I only got a couple of those 2 tone green ones used on Evil-bay. Only one of them had a tanker and he was a standard issue guy at that too
If anyone has any of these 21st tankers with removable helmet they want to sell or trade, let me know

They've been all over at Wal Mart (as part of the D-Day series US figures) and you should be able to find them easily on-line. None of the Battle of the Bulge US Tankers or the original tanker figures had removable helmets.General Blasto wrote:Ok Razor, I stand corrected![]()

As I've said before, the 3 1/18 Shermans put me in a dilemma.
The BBI Sherman is the best-looking with great weathering and detail, but it's only fault is the 105mm---I want a 75mm.
The 21st Sherman looks good with a 75mm and stowage, but it's the old split-hatch model with little, if any, weathering---and it's discontinued.
The FOV Sherman is a vanilla tank---less detail and weathering, no crewman, but it's the cheapest even though it's hard to find.
I was looking at the SSHQ photo of the prototype for 21 Century's WEATHERED Sherman---it was very impressive and even better looking than BBI's. Too bad they never released it with weathering.

Found a few Germans and US FOV 1/18 figs last night @ Florence, KY Target.
Grabbed the 3 Germans and left the US guys.
BTW: the grey stickers that were on the pricing labels are gone - but really they must have only sent one case of 12 figures to the Target I wen to. COME ON!!! Send a couple cases...TARGET!!!!!!!!!

Interesting... It seems like the reverse is happening with the Target distribution. My area got the figures early on, but the Shermans still have not shown yet. Other areas, it seems, have found the armor and are now just getting the figures. Hopefully my area will soon get the Shermans. Still, I won't hold my breath, but there's always hope
