ALLOYSKULL:

Ironically, just yesterday I was thinking about BBI or 21st Century doing a replica of the old F-19 or the Aurora. I guess the closest were the Bermuda Triangle Avengers and aliens.

I always sort of liked that plane - I had a little diecast Tootsietoys version when I was a kid.

However, if you're looking for something even remotely similar to the F-19 in 1:18, the old GI Joe Phantom X-19 is your best bet.

Image

This plane was released in the US beginning in 1988 and was also sold internationally. it features an opening two=seat cockpit with working seatbelts, retractable landing gears, opening air-brakes, removable missiles, cruise missiles, and (its most toyish feature) extendable wings that expose laser cannon. Although one of the larger planes for the 3 3/4" GI Joe line, it is still underscale - working out to approximately a little more than 40 feet in length in 1:18th scale terms. Also, if built in real life, the plane would hardly be stealthy. (I guess it could be a concept demonstration aircraft of sorts...) Still, for the sheer looks and the functionality of the toy, it is pretty neat!

They can often be found on ebay complete and in good shape. I paid $50 for one in mint condition that came with everything but the box.

Man, I miss my Rattler...

I did have the 1:48 model kit of the F-19, which I built, but now have no idea of what happened to it. I'll call my mom, she always knows what happened to crap, be it a model I had, or someone I went to school with...

i remember when monogram came out with their concept of what the f-19 was going to look like; it was patterned after an artists intepretation from a brochure produced by an aerospace electronics company. Super cool looking design, much better looking that the chubby Testors version, imo. There was also a GI Joe version of it as well, i forget the name.

Anyway, as we all know, nobody's guesses were even close and i was always disappointed the monogram version wasn't correct, cos it looked so good.
i never met an airplane i didn't like...

Same here.
Colonel "Madman" Maddox: Let me hear your guns!
Captain Wild Bill Kelso: My what?
Colonel "Madman" Maddox: Your guns! Ack, ack, ack, ack, ack!
Captain Wild Bill Kelso: [fires his airplane's guns] AHHHH!
