1/18-ish Ju-88A coming
1/18-ish Ju-88A coming
Another r/c, this one by Flying Styro who make beautiful kits. Will come painted and just require a couple hours assembly. Expect 2 or 3 paint options. Comes with full decals.
Will probably be a bit on the big side; 1/17, maybe even 1/16.
Due March....cost most likely around $200.

Branching out as in so far, I have limited myself to the 1/18 (give or take) offerings from the "big 4" (21st, bbi, AT, and FOV), with the occasional PTE or comparable piece picked up on a whim.
So far, I have avoided the R/C world because that opens up a whole new can of worms when it comes to space, time, etc. I have fought temptation so far, but it's getting harder!!!

well
In the end it is branching out. It is not plastic or diecast which is what most of our models are made of. Also, it is not 1:18 scale, no matter how you slice it. Also, I think you need to paint it - correct me if I'm wrong - which is one reason a lot of us collect 21C, bbi & AT. Finally, it is about twice as much $ as what we'd expect to pay for the same in our niche.
Until I see some pics of peoples collections complimented with these large RC birds, I still see them all as Off Topic...

yes as i said in my original post it comes fully painted.....you do need to apply the decals.
I think these are as on topic as chap mei, power team etc which are also not 1/18 scale but only in the ball park for the most part.
The planes i discuss are (close to) 1/18 scale models of recognizable warplanes...the material they are made out of is irrelevant in my view. Why should only plastic or metal qualify? So, if foam is no good, how about fibrglass? resin? wood? (Red's favourite model making material) etc.
If only plastic and metal qualify we'll have to ask the hun to please go to off topic to show us his gorgeous 1/18 customs and kits, as they are made from resin.
Some of these r/c planes are made from a light plastic, usually vacuform. Are those ok to discuss here?
Variety of subject matter has never been the strong point of this scale......i think it's a good idea if we discuss what we can find, without putting to narrow a criteria on it.

Oops - you did say painted. That is big in my book, and adds a lot to the offering.
I didn't mean to suggest styro is OT in and of itself, just that these things are different enough in enough ways for me to view them as another hobby altogether, albeit related.
By all means post good finds like that here, but unlike Chap Mei and especially PTE which we see people work into their collections (even 1/16 RC tanks have displayed favorably on this forum), it just doesn't seem like many people are ready to take the plunge on these things and incorporate them with their XD.
