I always like the Challenger. Those track skirtsinthe picture above make it look like the old WWI Brit armor.

Never got the Challenger myself I do have the Grant but not in that paint scheme. I have a T-72 I would say that it is one rare tank also.

Is that the way it came out of the box? I haven't seen one like that before. It does however look a lot like a repainted FOV T-72, albeit with the fuel lines left off and a different tow cable attached. What's the story with it?

Sorry guys, I just could not resist... :P Yeah...it's just a simple repaint, nothing special, and I still have some weathering and detailing to do on it. Overall, I'm pleased with the look, and basically I just got tired of waiting for FOV to do Soviet T-72. Regarding the fuel lines...these were removed for painting because enamel paints have a nasty habit of eating rubber, in the end, I may not even bother replacing them...I have a couple of very good references on the T-72 in Soviet/Warsaw Pact service, and more than a few have the fuel barrels in place but no lines connected, so it's not altogether innaccurate without the lines connected.

Looks sweet Mitch. That antenna mast looks a little wonky though...I don't think I have ever seen one that thick on an FOV vehicle before...usually they are the wire kind, you know...the kind that can poke a hole in you if you're not careful... No biggie on the antenna...just an observation...and a nice looking tank. 8)

Well this one is pretty much rare and I was lucky enough to get one of ebay a few months back. Have not seen many since.

Thats the T-34 I have as well - and its still one of my favorite FOV vehicles 8) Never did get the winterized one, even though the two figures are nice. A couple of years ago, I seem to recall the both the above mentioned Matilda and Sherman sitting around in my Targets for a while when they were out. I never felt like picking them up at the time...

On another note, this thread has made me pull all my aparently "rare" FOV vehicles out of the storage box, find all the antennas, and put them on display

Mitch, a friend picked one of these up for me at TRU just two weeks ago. I have Shermans coming out my kazoo but did not want to seem ungrateful. I don't know if I would put it under the rare category though.

The Challenger 2 was a rare tank? Good thing I snagged one up way back when. I don't collect 1/32 anymore, but when I saw it, I just had to have it.

I'm curious to know how come this tank never got the fanfare it deserves. I mean, it's one of the best (if not the best) modern 1/32 armor out there.

Really? Why would they call their action grade stuff limited? I would think it would make more sense with their enthusiast editions. Hmmm... Some of the paint schemes were so gawdawful few bought them!

What about the English camo Sherman? I never picked one up but they were out a few years ago. Is that one limited also?

I found this exact tank at Target today  There was only one, along with the winterized M-16 Halftrack. They must have been found in the back of the storage room, though both boxes were in good shape and not too dusty. I picked up both

The finds were probably a fluke, but if I see the Matilda, I'll snag it this time around!

This "limited release' is a hell of a lot easier to find than a Marder or 38t! :D

BTW, anyone have any idea what date/theater that camo scheme represents?
Probably Sicily/Italy, mid-to late 1943?

Rarest FOV Tank

Post by lightning2000 » Mon Jan 21, 2008 6:03 pm

Hi,
Based on Request at Retail inquiries, I'd have to say the two most coveted tanks in the series thus far are the M26 Pershing followed by the first issue Grant. Many of the people searching for the Grant were satiated by the release of the second Grant, which cant be said for the Pershing. Hence, expect the price for the Pershing to remain high until a second iteration comes along. If they can offer six versions of the King Tiger and Tiger I, you can bet more versions of the Pershing will eventually see the light of day.

I'd like to see them eventually come out with a true limited edition line with numbered certificates of authenticity. Now that they're headed into their fifth year of continuous operations and have an entrenched group of supporters at retail and at the consumer level, a true limited edition line would do extremely well, even during downturns in the economy. Just my two gold-plated, President-inspired cents...

Wait, what are you saying? I'm not going to be able to retire to my own private island lair by selling off a piece or two every few years? All my hopes... All my dreams... All my plans... All my schemes...

I agree with Schizuki.

Limited Edition is just a pain for everyone. Unless it's something that ISN'T mass produced. If it can be made fairly easily, it shouldn't be limited... seriously.

Although, over-saturation is equally painful. But when something's not available to everyone, it just adds to frustration. Resellers add on blown up prices when they are found, making them available, but only to those who are willing to pour money out of their wallet.

It would be alright, as long as those "limited edition" pieces are offered in regular edition, just not as individual. Like, a Tiger hand weathered and having all these fine details is the limited edition, while the un-limited one has the same paint and all, just not as extreme quality. So if you don't want to pay that much, you can weather it yourself or whatever.

I'm just rambling, sorry.

I have seen several Pershing tanks at local hobby shops for around $40. In fact every Hobbypeople store I visit has at least one Pershing.

I was going to pick up another one but will wait next month for the West coaster toy soldier show. Plenty of FOV dealers attand trying to unload their stuff. Last year I bought several vehicles at 1/2 price compared to online and retail dealers.
