1/48 ambush
Last night I dropped by three WMs and with the exception of the Tunisia play set there was nothing new. Next thing I know I was ambushed by a D and H model Pz IV. They completely got the drop on me, had me surrounded and made me purchase them and take them home. They kept me covered with the 1/6 MG42 set during the drive.
I need more scales like a hole in the head but the new 1/48 releases look darn good and are only $5.99 each. Much improved over the S1 releases in my opinion. The 1/6 MG set was just too darn cool to overlook for $3.

I like the 1/48 line but the IV-H, S1, needed skirting. Does this one? I haven't seen it yet.

Turret yes, side skirts no. Think 1/18 release...ltcbj wrote:I like the 1/48 line but the IV-H, S1, needed skirting. Does this one? I haven't seen it yet.

So it is just a repaint of the first series. I thought the "D" was far superior to the "H" of those two. What is the repaint scheme on the S2 "D"?

.
I picked up the 1/48 Pz IV Ausf. H which is somewhat of a misnomer as the hull is actually that for a Ausf. D. The turret w/skirts is accurate for an H model however.
The tank is completely panzer yellow which, from my research, is accurate for the 16th Panzer Division which was rebuilt after that division's destruction at Stalingrad; it then served in Italy. It's a stretch to think that a model D hull would be serving in Italy in 1943 with a new turret, but I don't think that it's completely out of reason. Bovington has a D with the long barrel 75mm and the turrent skirts. The turrent on that vehicle is for a D and not an H however.
The tank's upper hull is metal giving it some heft and the tank is nicely marked and weathered. The tracks roll well, the hull MG, turret, and main gun are movable. The commander's hatch is the only one that opens.
It cost me a little over $6 at Wal-Mart and goes well with my Corgi 1/50 scale vehicles and my Hobby Master 1/48 scale King Tigers.

Dark Panzer grey with red numbers outlined in white. Can't remember the exact number. Do you want me to dig it out of the closet of XD doom and find out for sure?

Thank you olifant but that is unnecessary unless it is fun. The first one was in a light panzer grey with the number 813 writ small on the rear of the turret.
I initially bought out three wal-marts in the western part of the state ending up with a ~dozen of the "D" and a ~dozen "H"s as well. Upon removal from their packaging I found the "H" model just had no staying power- the cannon drooped, it just looked wrong to me. So I sold all of the Hs on eBay but am keeping the "D"s to supplement my 1/50 Corgi Panthers and Tigers, etc. I could use a few more "D"s and if my local wal-marts get them in (always chancy- currently they are reorganizing the toy section for Christmas and have virtually nothing but Star Wars and WWF figures) I'll pick up some more.
