Look at the grime!

Image
Gun plating and cowling chipping.

Image
I gave the prop a spin and snapped it. 8)

Right side detail.

Again, but from a rearward angle.

Image
Wing chipping detail.

Image
Rudder and elevator grime and chipping.

Gun view.

Left side cowling detail.

Exhaust detail.

Another angle of the cowling.

Overall view from above.

Tell me what you think. Oh, and I'm pretty sure I chipped the wrong edge of the prop blades... Ugh.

I also have an A6M2 in the works. I went with a really beatt up job 'cause well, it was 1945, hell for the Germans. Blue 12 wasn't exactly the best kept plane either... Not that my weathering is historically accurate, but I like it.

The Zero is 1/3 done, I have pics, but I think I'll wait, unless anyone wants to see what I've done so far? The Zero isn't nearly as chipped.

First I did a diluted wash of black enamel paint and thinner, about 70% thinner and 30% paint inside the panel lines. Then i took that same wash and smeared it on the wings and fuselages along the panel lines and took my finger and rubbed along them. I did this several times to darken it. Some times you want a really dry solution to get it dark. Same with the exhaust and gun stains, except make them wider and smear them sharp at the end.

The paint chipping is just silver enamel paint, and you really want to use a good hard brush, dip it barely in, wipe 95% of the paint off and "chip" where wear would occur, also where stuff like debris would hit, like the leading edges and cowling. Also where crews would walk and stuff. Any raised edges are bound to be beat up.
