And yes, I agree with you about Disney. They are certainly cut throat about their copyrights. And that story about the lemmings is just disgusting. Nature films? Huh!!

This is the most absurd thing I have ever heard. If an architect designs and draws a house for me and I pay for it, the drawings and designs and name are mine at the end of the day. Whatever proprietary ways they used to make the drawings or ingenious materials they used during the process are theirs but the end result is mine to do whatever I want. Like wise, it seems if the federal government paid a defense contractor to draw and design an item for their use, it is the federal governments decision as to how and where the item is used. If I contract with a company in China to build a scale airplane, does the company in China have the ability to dictate the use of the name, demand a royalty to from me and force me to put a logo of the manufacturer on the box? Big companies, like the defense industry and big oil, are OUT Of CONTROL!
We need a Teddy Roosevelt to come back with the big stick (trust busters) and kick some a**.

It ain't the companies. They have gone aqlong ignoring THIS situation for decades. It's the lawyers. The tort lawyers specifically, the John Edwards types, the type who are the biggest contributors to one of our political parties, who are out to soak anybody they can, drumming up business for themselves. Do you really think that the board of directors of Boeing or General Dynamics sits around thinking of piddling ways to squeeze tens of thousands of dollars out of little businesses they never heard of? Of course not. They have real fish to fry. It's the lawyers on staff, one of whose son's just built a model of an Abrams and the lawyer dad thought "hmmm, maybe can get some money for that...."

So lawyer-dad brings the proposal to some petty bureaucrat in the company and they're off. Make work for attorneys.

One of those Disney stories occurred at a Day Care in florida. They decorated the walls with the characters, Disney somehow got wind of it and threw a fit and sued or threatened to sue. Universal in a great publicity coup came in and decorated the Daycare with Universal characters. I believe this happened in the early 1990's. Here in the Sunshine state Disney and Universal are locked in mortal combat for your tourism dollar so it was kind of funny at the time.

I always preferred Bugs and Daffy, et al to the Disney characters. Except for Donald. I loved him. But Mickey's a wimp.
