The WC-63 is alot like the Panzer IV - both good pieces, but lacking in the suburb quality and detail of earlier 21c armor. 21st can still improve!

I originally had a long rant in regards to all points the rest of you have made. But I deleted it, not too sound like a little whiner.

I think planes is where the money is. That is where 21C is definitely focusing. I would have paid $40 for the WC-63 if it looked as good as the WC-57. I actually thought that it was a steal at $30, UNTIL I pulled it off it's base... Well you get what you pay for...

Come on 21st Century. If I wanted generic toys I would buy GI Joes. Please put the effort back into the ground forces like you once had. Please...

XD M1025 S2

Post by digger » Mon Mar 07, 2005 5:49 pm

WOW - I finally got an S2 M1025 and it really is awesome. Now all the warnings, markings and detail really show on the vehicle in the lighter paint. The paint job overall is awesome, and what is really sweet is swapping in/out a door from/to an S1 for less of a factory finish. The Tow launcher is a little off in color but who cares (we have enough of those...) when there are NEW M-16s!
I'm sorry if that has been said but 21st repainted the M-16s (think the VN weapons) but kept the newer model rifle. Finally my USMC will have weapons! The M4 that comes with the SF operator is still the best modern 1:18 weapon yet....but the batch of new M-16s is a nice bonus to a really nice vehicle.

Paint Scheme

Is there any word on whether 21st will release another version, namely winter, of the WC 63? BC's item description ends with a S2. Does this mean there is a series 1 yet to be released?

Looks like BCA is raising the price on the Dodge truck. When they first got it in they priced it at $32. It went to $35. It's now at $37.

Truck

Post by digger » Wed Mar 16, 2005 8:32 am

Unless you plan to take advantage of the free shipping, don't shop at BCA. Not only did they charge me $30 for Priority and then shipped FedEx ground, they don't have great prices. You can get the truck for 30 at Goodstuff, the halftracks are 32, the Marines are 66 (yes, for a case)...and best of all when your package comes they reduce the shipping charge to what it actually was. So it may say $15 when you check out but you will likely be charged less, and never more.

Interesting - I wonder whats up with BCA? They've usually been pretty good on prices, unless there is something else amiss.

I've been reading alot of negative comments about BCA and their shipping methods. I wonder what is causing the problem. I was going to order some Build-A-Rama stuff from them but now I'm hesistant to do so after reading other people's experiences with their shipping methods. I guess if I do order I'll have to make sure it's over $100 so that the items will ship for free and there won't be any problems. :(

Has anyone ever removed the "canvas" roof from the 1 1/2 ton truck? I eas looking at mine, and it seems like it'd be a much nicer piece without it.

Yes, I did it with one of my trucks. The canvass part should pull off with a little force. All that is left are the "poles" that it was held up on. Those could be cut off easily, leaving the truck with the "canvass off" look.

BTW, great way to bring back a 4 year old thread

here's some pics of mine that's in my "stalled" customs pile. I just stuck some styrene tubes on it to get the basic form with plans to make it fully covered with some fabric... someday I'll get it done.

Charlie,
I'm confused. What's this "finish" thing you mention? You mean I'm actually supposed to complete these...

seriously, actual progress should get underway next month when I move into a house with an actual shop space to work in. Everythings been packed in boxes for the past year and a half or longer while I gutted, rebuilt, and sold my place in Queens. I can't wait to actually start working on everything again!

I actually did get the scout car wheel mold done and cast the rear wheels last week. I've got full orthographics in illustrator that I drew up from measuring out the 1/6 21st version. I think getting the gunrail to workout right will be the hardest part.

Centone, the Scout car looks very cool! Is that the front half of the US halftrack?

Thanks, that's just my cardboard mock up stuck on the front of a 21st halftrack (to test fit before I cut styrene). I swear I started this thing 4 or 5 years ago and it's just now re-surfacing!!!

gary1930 made a really nice one shown in the following thread, look for the pics zonetoys posted about 1/2 way down the page.

I have Gary's 1/18 Scout Car and it does look great. No seats in the back like the real one but even 21C's 1/6 Scout Car doesn't have the six seats, I guess they are too easily broken in our scales.

Anyway, Gary's SC is great, I'm very happy with it.

Thanks, guys - I might give it a try!

With the possible demise of 21C, I find myself ever more appreciative of the fantastic 1:18 military toys they've produced over the last 9 years. For instance, the 1 1/2 ton truck is hefty (not thin and cheap feeling) and very nicely detailed. How cool can you get for the few dollars they went for when they were released?!
