Isn't German BOB stuff great!?

Post by markecho » Sun Feb 27, 2005 10:14 am

I know this post is a little late (cuz BOB stuff came out a while ago) but after being inspired by Centones head swap:
http://community.webshots.com/photo/220 ... 9160guHJKT
(and the fact that i've always liked that FOV winter halftrack)... i got hooked...
http://community.webshots.com/photo/141 ... 9850RPYnFl
so spent the weekend getting some BOB stuff. although mine aren't as customized, had fun kitbashing and headswapping some winter troops and viola. now just gotta wait for that re-release of the winter halftrack
and Centone..if you are out there could you answer me one question?..(and that's not the question)..how did you make the guy on the left..with the camo pants? did you paint those pants and the jacket? I'm still trying to figure how you kitbashed that...but think you customized it. i don't see any XD WWII figures with pants like that...cool figure :)

and after holding off on BOB stuff and now getting a close look at it - i do have to say bravo 21stC. great figures and i love those trench coats too! hope the future WWII figs and (hopefully someday) other modern figs will be of this quality!

and finally (after how many years??) got a decent Tiger crew..
http://community.webshots.com/photo/141 ... 0207icRRkM
can anyone tell me what the difference between the tiger crew hat is? is the one with the "bill" signify the commander? cuz ive seen other pictures where the guy in the commanders hatch wears that "flight cap" looking hat also. just curious.
now i really can't wait for that Panzer IV..and gotta get more winter tankers!

by the way...admins, do you think it would be a good idea to have a "photo" section as a sticky post? ive seen this on other boards and was wondering if people wanted to post new pics or links to new pics we could all look in one place. just a thought. i dont know if that would get too cumbersom for the server or if putting pics there would slow it down. but it is nice to see what others are doing and get inpiration and ideas :)

Great pics! I find that I'm getting into more of the BOB stuff too! I guess it's because the armor pieces look more realistic when they are weathered rather than clean. I just got a bunch of the BOB German and US soldiers and I plan on doing some head swapping too! Can't wait for the next repaint of the halftracks! :D

Did you use 1st series heads to put with the BOB Germans.
And I know this has been posted, but to avoid any breakage "How did you remove and then switch heads". Thanks, Gary

Where did you get all the black-suited German Tanker bodies? I've made a similar custom Tiger crew using the BoB German Tanker heads, and regular S1 German soldier bodies. They don't look that bad, but yours look much better!

I agree that the BoB figures are more & more tempting. Save for the US and German Tanker figures, I pretty much stayed away from them until very recently. My WC-63 just didn't look right with US Marines riding in the back - BoB figures are much better! The soft rubber-plastic for the Jackets was a very good feature on the part of 21st.

hey all thanks for the commnets :D
yep now i see the draw to BOB stuff. if you can immeww2 please share - i would like to see more ideas :)

75th ranger - you know you can still order them from BCA, smalljoes.com...and SBP.

Gary, as far as head swapping, i used the old boiling water trick..that i learned from these here boards. i nuke a cup o water for about 2min and then set in the top halves of the figures i want to swap heads...let them sit in there for about 30sec and then dry 'em real quick, pull off the heads (which come out very easily then) and then pull the switcherooo. that simple. i do that with limbs at times too - even when i want to pull a body in half. but expect casualties once in a while...but now that i think of it my only casualties happened when i DIDN'T use the hot water...impatience..tsk tsk!
oh and yes i did use 1st series german heads with BOB bodies but i had to trim the bulb at the base of the neck with an Xacto to make it fit easier.

tmanthegreat - i wanted a platoon of tigers...therefore i got one tiger commander with each of my tigers when they went on sale at TRU a while back. i only ended up with 3 tigers so i have 3 black-suited tank commanders. i just used the ardennes tanker head on the black suited commanders body and got my other crewmembers. i lucked out with one tanker head in that his headphones were loose so with a little patience and that trusty Xacto i was able to take the headphones off. but he doesn't have real ears...but from afar you can't tell all that much ;)...that's why he's the loader!
21st had previewed some other black tanker carded figs..but haven't seen them yet. hopefully "someday"....so we'll all have more black-suits...and then my panther can get a decent crew too

thanks again all for looking..
take it easy

question

Post by 75th Ranger » Sat Mar 05, 2005 7:17 pm

I was wondering...
how did you make the german that has the cammo pattern pants in the head swaping pic?

which figures was it made of?....

also for one of your german officers did you have to cut the coat in the waist to add it to the rest of the body?

let me know

take care,
HOOAH!

I did alomst the exact same thing with my BoB figures! I love the winter gear from the tanker figure with the white german helmet combo... that was one of my favorites I did as well! It took me a couple years to realize you could head swap but once I did... I quickly began doing my own thing and the entire BoB set is about the best to do it with IMO. Great shots man!

hey 75thRanger, as far as the camo pants guy...that wasn't my pic. that was a pic i drew inspiration from. it was done by Centone..and i too still wonder which figures he used to kitbash it...but i suspect he also did some custom work and painting. i cant figure out which figures he used cuz both the top half and bottom half do not resemble any xd figure parts that i can figure out..it really is a great figure.
and if you are talking about the officer in my set of pics, all i did was head swap. i didnt do anything to the body or legs. that is from the "closed coat Ardennes German Infantry".
http://store1.yimg.com/I/badcattoys_1834_1214959
and i suspect that is exactly how Centone made his officer...but he used a 1S german officers head.
hope that helps..

tko211, yeah i agree with everyone that loves this stuff... BoB stuff i great! i even ordered more Bob figs so i can make a MG42 guy with a trench coat :)..and plus i didn't use any of the winter tankers as tankers! heh! so now i still need a winter tanker crew..ha!

thanks for the comments!

SBP has the winter tankers, and both the closed and open coat german figs at $5.99 each so I went ahead and purchased a bunch of them and wound up spending over $100 to get them shipped free. Now I can do some head swapping and and see what works. :D
