I knew it was a snake but not what kind---so with a few Conan like swipes I had killed my enemy!!!!

It was a Black snake and was about 4 feet long---harmless--- but I wasnt sure!!!! But hey the only good snake is a dead snake!!!!

So be very careful brothers when out and about!!!!---RED---

It looks like a cottonmouth, I was bit by one when I was at basic training at fort benning. it felt like I was hit in the arm by with a 2x4.
But it's hard to tell from those pic's what kind of snakes. I don't think it's a Black rat snake, they have a white underside.

Dang Red you were lucky! The only thing I got to worry about in tall grass is smokin piles of dog crap. The guy across the street has a big ass dog... I think its a shitsalot.
The only native snakes here on the Island are harmless and under a foot long. Well Take Care, Normandy

I am not up to date on my Steve Irven manual but I think that The Kitty is right don't kings have a white belly? Go back and get it and pry it's mouth open to see if it has fangs. Thats if you have the nads of course. Oh and you must take fotos. BTW the poison still works ( Kids don't try this at home or the school yard)

Be careful messing with dead snakes because if it is a deadly one they can still envenom ate you it does happen.

I've seen (and yes, held) many a cottonmouth/water mocasin and never seen any that long, and would be a bit worried if I did

I won't give you too much crap about killing it, but just a word of advice, snakes are good, killing them is bad!

Glad it wasn't a Cottonmouth Red. We have them here and they don't tend to disengage like Rattlesnakes do. We have Western Diamondbacks here but the dogs around the house keep them away. I haven't seen one in years.
