Bunker Hill Avenger question
Bunker Hill Avenger question
I am thinking of gettng a Bunker Hill Avenger. Does anyone have this version of the Avenger? What do you think of it? I really like the Bunker Hill scheme.
Correct
The "winged' national insignia of the sides of the Avenger are supposed to be angled some. Even the non-winged insignia is turned slightly if you look closely.

This gives you a small idea of the twist visible from the side. Most all Avengers are painted this way and it's normal.

interesting.....but i've seen photos of actual Avengers from the same squadron as our Bunker Hill Avenger and and their insignia are not angled. In fact, until i saw your illustration, i wasn't able to find any pictures of Avengers with angled insignia.
Glad that it appears to be authentic....i bet lots of buyers think it's a factory mistake though.

i never met an airplane i didn't like...

Here's a pic I scrounged off the web of a Bunker Hill (CV-17) Avenger. The national insignia is definately canted at an angle. A friend's uncle that did Navy aircraft depot service during the later WW2 timeperiod told me that the insignaia (according to Navy doctrine) was supposed to follow a line half way between the upper and lower fuselage line and not the vertical fin spine. Because of the curvature of the fuselage upper surface at the waist, it gives it the noticeable cant. That's the way most all of the GM and Grumman Avengers came off the line. So 21C is quite correct.
