Is this really worth the money??? It looks pretty amazing! Just wondering how many of you diehards have this beast? I don't know anyone who has one...it's really expensive.

Forget those old Tamiya shermans,get the Full Option version,with engine cannon and MG noises,MG and cannon flash,lights,turret turning,gun elevation,working suspension.You will never regret it,I have three of those!! You would be looking at 400-450 USD for the kitset,then you will need a transmitter/receiver,as well,you can connect a 'battle system',then you get explosions,damaged engine sounds,lots more!

Tankduel is right, forget the old two channel, go for the Full Function. I have 3 FF and 2 RC Tamiya tanks. The full Function ones are so much more fun. They are worth every penny. Check out Backyardarmor.com They have the best prices I have seen. Plus a butt load of up-grades. I recently did a M4A3E8 with Backyard Armors conversion kit and a bunch of custom work. You only need the battle system if you are dueling another tank with the battle system right? How much is the controller, it needs to be 4 channel right? That's extra on top of the kit, as the kit doesn't come with one. Do you need anything else to get up and running. I guess the tank comes with a speed controller.

If you're planning on purchasing the old 1974 Sherman, and want to battle, it won't work. I think the battle system will only work with tanks that have DMD units inside, which the old Tamiya sherman doesn't have.

You can shop around for a good 4-channel transmitter, they can range from $80-$150 dollars. I got the Futaba Skysport 4 kit that includes servos, transmitter, receiver, battery, and battery charger for $120.

Oh, you also need NiCad batteries and charger. You can find cheap ones for 9.99 at your local toy stores, but those only have a running time of 15-20 minutes.

Yes,the battle system is optional,and it can only be plugged into the full option RC sherman with DMD/MF units.Another transmitter/receiver option to look at is HITEC, (4 ch)I believe they are compatable and much cheaper than Futaba.The full option Sherman can also be operated using a 2 channel transmitter,but operating it gets a bit complicated,(the instructions tell you how to do it)much better to go for 4 channels.Oh,and yes,you get a speed controller (DMD) so speed (and engine sound)is proportional to stick movement.

thanks for the info guys. I don't need a battery and charger, I have a Tamiya Mini Cooper RC I built last year. I guess I'm talking about the new kit, which has the DMD in the box. Does that work like an Elec. Speed Controller? Sorry, not familiar with the term DMD? How do you know if you are getting the new Sherman, and not the "old one". Is it because the DMD is included in the new kit. Also, does anyone know who has the best deal on this tank? Sorry to keep buggin, just interested. Sounds like it may be worth the cash.

You want kit no. 56014 ,M4 Sherman,Full Option Kit.
www.backyardarmor.com has best prices,or you might do better on ebay,have a look at what hongkong_cowboy is selling,good record as well.

I read a review online of this kit...but I think it might have been one of the older Shermans. This guy said the turret and gun did NOT traverse...and he had to modify it with servos to make them work...I thought this was part of the package when you buy the kit? The best price I've seen on this kit is $469.00. No radio of course. Any help on this would be great!

If it has servos,then it is indeed the old kit,the new kit has turret traverse.
Sounds like a good price you found,if its for 56014,which should have all the functions previously mentioned.
Before you buy one,give us the link,so we can help you make sure you don't get caught out.

Ok, cool, so sounds like if it's the 56014 kit I should be ok....I would be getting it from a local hobby rc store , but they would have to order it...I'll just make sure the kit number matches to the newest version...I would not be happy with one of the older ones, I know that...not for that kind of cash.
